Mary Worth 2416

"Iris must be pleased... with the advice I gave her to spend more time with her son. Yes, I've done it again. It's time for my victory lap."

Every time I wonder How Much Longer This Storyline Can Go On, it drags another week or two. This time, I won't be disappointed or fooled. Plan on spending at least Thanksgiving with Tommy and Iris, who will be Thankful for him finally beating his Vicodin Addiction with the help of Jesus and Mom-Time.

Tommy is smiling - because he doesn't have to go to work anymore, ever. Back to laying on the couch and surfing the net. Good times. Thanks Mary!

Mary's gloating so much, she's about to punch Tommy's floating head (between two palm trees!) all the way to Goleta.

I'm hoping that Mary replies "Tommy already told me that" to everything Iris says, and that the irate Iris zips Mary's hoodie up over her face and shoves her off the path.

KitKat: "Irate Iris" is also, once again, "Eyeless Iris." June: For the love of God, please go look at some mug shots. When people turn their heads sideways, or even a little further, their eyeballs don't disappear.

"I want to tell you something. . . . I've decided Tommy's not worth my time after all and I'm running off to Jamaica."

I'm with your, Yahoonski. The empty eye sockets are FREAKING ME OUT!

Thank heavens June is continuing the 'floating head' tradition. But it still doesn't make the continuation of this story line worth it.

I'm glad I ran into! I want to tell you something...

Tommy has been attending Narcotics Anonymous meetings, he's been reading passages from the Bible, he's been seeing Dr. Leone, taking suboxone to deal with the withdrawals from Vicodin and he's been spending plenty of time with me!

How's his back?

Nice try, Mary Worth! You weren't daydreaming about IRIS, you were daydreaming about her dreamy son, TOMMY! Snagged!

What do you think Iris will say? Tommy found a job? Tommy found a new girlfriend/significant other/friend with benefits ... DAWN? Tommy found religion? Sheesh! I can hardly wait to find out!

Does Mary Worth ever visit Judge Parker? Things move a bit more quickly in that strip. Just sayin'.

TUESDAY...oops, make that TUESDAY

The hopes of @DWET from last night have been dashed. All Iris wanted to tell Mary was that Mary is responsible for Tommy's turnaround. A mother's love is the answer, no matter what! All those other people struggling with addiction just have bad, er, bad mothers!

Is that supposed to be a body of water behind Iris and the capri-clad Mary?

TUESDAY

Mary, with her drive-by advice given months and months (perhaps even years ago), reappears now for her Victory Lap and Kudos.

KM is undoubtedly a Student Of Freud's when it comes to addiction recovery. If all addicts merely resolve their Mother Issues, they will be cured.

@KitKat--that is what we Literary Types call 'foreshadowing.' It is obviously a cleverly placed physical clue of the Pool Party to come.

OK, there will be a smug-a-thon for the rest of the week that will result in one more disservice to sufferers of heroin addiction and their families. In real life, Tommy would relapse a few times, might even overdose on heroin, NO MATTER HOW NOBLE OR HELICOPTERING HIS MOTHER'S ACTIONS....If you think THIS plot is tortuous and boring, imagine what the real thing is like. Who knew opiate addiction had so much in common with the typical Mary Worth plot?

@KitKat: Yes, my hopes were indeed dashed ... but STILL ... I'm LOVIN' it!!! Actual new information! Iris worships at the altar of the divine MARY WORTH ... just like me! Mary takes a victory lap ... LITERALLY! ... And Tommy and DAWN are nowhere to be seen ... I think they're hiding in the bushes sharing a big wet SMOOCH!
