Mary Worth 2605

"You remember Ian? The man who was pounding on my door at 2:00 AM last year because you ran away from home until he promised to respect your clay figures and clown paintings? The man you vowed to be faithful to in sickness and in health till death do you part? You know, Ian?"

"Nope. No clue. Is he good looking?"

Good: 17

Imagine it in reverse:

"Do you miss Jeff?"

"Toby, dear, Jeff is a wonderful man, so pleasant to spend time with. We give each other the freedom to soar, to live our lives without the stress of being together all the time."

"Are we talking about Dr. Jeff, the guy who proposes marriage periodically?"

"Oh, that Jeff. I get him confused with Jeff Allora...wait, his first name is Jeff, isn't it? Ummmm....I wonder what Derek and Katie are up to?"

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "Toby's Hidden Agenda".

Ian?
Who?
Haha! Too much!
Too easy forget...present!

And once again we pivot from an advertising spot to sappy inspirational cliche-mongering without advancing the plot, such as it is, one inch. Do you think they'll make it back home by Christmas?

Tomorrow panel one: Ian crying himself to sleep - then dreaming about scary clown paintings
Tomorrow panel two: Jeff crying himself to sleep - forever alone

How about a sidebar at the teaching summit in Seattle, where Ian is giving bagpipe lessons to a comely adjunct professor of sociology from Missoula?

Perhaps Mary, Toby, and Iris's arm's length relationships with their "significant others" is K Moy's attempt to show that SOME of the women in the Worthiverse are at least clumsily independent from those men in their lives...Gloria Steinem might shudder at the depiction, but this is as modern as the Worthiverse gets... No Wonder Woman here.

Exactly, @LouiseF! Clumsily independent, love it.
I read the second panel with my "punctuation matters" glasses on. Without the comma it reads, "Haha! You're too much Toby!"
@Scottie McW, these passengers will never make it home if the placid ocean is any indication. Like the plot, they seem to be dead in the water.

"Clumsily independent" - well put, @LouiseF! Let's put Elinor Kinley in that category. Olive Taylor seems to be a clumsily independent woman in training. My nominees for not clumsily independent women: Beth Kinley and Hanna Dingdon Hastings.

Hilarious comments as always.

Scottie McW: Queue 'Do They Know it's Christmas' in the Charterstone jukebox.

It appears that Mary had a recent appointment with Joan Rivers plastic surgeon.

The silhouettes in Panel 1 look more like Peter & Wendy in Neverland than they do the women in Panel 2. Bring on the butterflies!
