Mary Worth 2681

Everyone knows how much I loved our previous artist, Joe Giella. But I also really love June Brigman, even if she doesn't know how to spell "bagel." Yesterday reminded me that one of her big credits for Marvel comics (I presume) was drawing Star Wars comic books. So I went searching online for other work from June. And I found this, from a 1992 issue of Legion of Superheros that she penciled.

I say, stop holding June back and let her run wild! I can't wait to see where we're headed next with this strip.

Dawn is really into healthy lunch choices. A side of Cheetos and fries along with her bagel (bagle?). As for the supplemental Brigman artwork, I really think this could be a promising new look for Mary--not for Ian, Wilbur, or Dr. Jeff, though.

Holy moly, I immediately pictured Mary in Dream Girl's get-up. There's no unseeing that - !! Kudos to your research, Wanders.

In keeping with the French names of two recent restaurants, this place is Bagle'. It's tres...something.

If there's a Worthy Award for Worst Haircut Sported by a Continuing Character, Dawn is a shoo-in. Her stylist must be Edward Scissorhands.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "Meanwhile, at Le Café de Fumbling Fool".

Jared, tell?
Afraid...but...but...(Do!)
What?

Well, Wanders, you've just taken things to a whole new level. I'm still processing it, but I think I like it. And good catch on the bagel spelling.

Meanwhile, when Dr. Ned finds out that Jared went out to lunch with Dawn, he asks Jared to step into his office, and then he says, "Look, you cretinous little worm, you stay away from Dawn or I'll be showing photos of your mutilated entrails at my next surgical conference, capice?"

I don't know, Wanders. After seeing that panel, before you go encouraging June to run wild, you might want to remind her that you run a "family friendly" blog. Otherwise, we may soon be checking in with you every day at GarfieldandMe.

I'm remembering this strip is set on the West Coast, where, I bet they don't know how to MAKE real bagels, let alone spell the word correctly...Blech. June needs to have Dawn and Jared lunching on fish tacos at a food truck parked under a palm tree.

Thanks for the image @KitKat. Excuse me while I go throw up and poke my eyes out.

I'm disappointed that Jared didn't get himself a Happy Meal at Bagle. He could have cross-pollinated his windowsill toy collection with a mini-Transformer.

By the way, when completing the "I am not a robot" captcha where you select all images that include signs, do you need to include the sign posts? When selecting cars, are trucks considered cars for purposes of the screening?

Jared, please don't talk with your mouth full. You just sprayed that wall with a half-masticated raisin.

Another "Mail it in / kill some time / don't advance the plot " day.

Panel One: Character 1: "I have something to tell / ask you"
Panel Two: Character 2: "What?"

This is just stealing money from the publishers.

I've lost count how many times this insipid device is deployed.

Who eats a bagel like a hamburger?

I’m curious why “Dream Girl” has springs on the toes of her shoes? Seems like it would be difficult to ride a bicycle wearing them.

@ Delilah

Good point. And why are Brad Buffbuns and Studley Hungwell wearing galoshes?

@Delilah and @S.McW/Anon - I live on Cape Cod - Provincetown. Please stop by for a visit. This is normal street wear here.
