It looks like Wilbur will have some survivor stories to write about right in his very own community. Thoughts, prayers, and donations to everyone struggling in Santa Barbara County and elsewhere.
A friend of a friend...
I expect Wilbur would run away from actual survivors. In Santa Royale, "tragedy" is being scammed into buying expensive jewelry for a grifter, or being lied to by your "true love" married boyfriend/boss. Actually Dawn, there was plenty of sunshine in Bogota, and, judging by Dad's girth, candy figured into things. But hey! Have another muffin and a cup of FEE!
First the fires and now this. The devastation is painful to see. Santa Barbara, Sonoma, Los Angeles, San Diego. It feels like fire season never ends. I'm a native Californian - it did not used to be like this. The loss of wildlife and people's homes and businesses is heartbreaking.
Way to gloss over and not be honest on Dawn's 'wasn't all fun and sun' and the 'you were working' comments Wilbur.Clearly you must have been too busy, hard at work, to not call your college age (?!) daughter who is living alone in your condo at least once in the last year to check in.
Today's Boldface Haiku is titled"Hey! Parenting And Adulting: No Big Deal!"Here.Working! Good excuse!Sunshine, candy.Amazing, sobering.Really.
@Sandi Ego--As a native Californian, you must feel a special kind of heartbreak for your home. I have several friends in Cali, and while they have been geographically removed from the fires and now this latest round of natural disaster, they, too, feel stunned and saddened. They love living in Cali, celebrate its gifts, and hate to see this terrible loss.
On a serious note: My thoughts and prayers are with the Californians dealing with yet another tragedy: First the wildfires, now mudslides.Wilbur is such a numbskull. Tragedy would be at his front door and he'd be eating his muffins while Rome burned. As long as we are using metaphors, let me say that Wilbur's trip wasn't unicorns and rainbows either. These two are so weird. They are like two strangers living in the same home. Father leaves home for a year, get's ripped off by two grifters and doesn't say a word to anyone (re: Mary and Dawn.) Daughter falls in love within days with Dr. McCreepy and is doing parkour with her professor and doesn't say a word to dad. (I think she mentioned Professor McCreepy once and Wilbur was like "yea, whatever.") I'm sure if you look up the word "loser" in the dictionary, you'll see Wilbur and Dawn.
I was in the supermarket this morning laying in supplies for the next ice storm and I saw a guy who looked just like Wilbur, only he was a bit grayer. Too funny. He was loading up on white bread, baloney, and mayo. (Okay, I made that up). -- Scottie McW.
This has been on my mind for a few days:When Mary makes muffins, how many muffins does she typically make? What is nobody is experiencing a crisis that calls for muffins and she has dozens of muffins lying around? I'm sure she has other muffin outlets, but still, I wonder how it is that she just had all these excess muffins.
On a serious note, thoughts and prayers to everyone affected by the disastrous fires and mudslides in California. On Toots McGee’s important muffin question, my belief is that Mary has a chest freezer, filled with carefully wrapped muffins...and Dr. Jeff.
fauxprof,Do you think there's a vacuum sealer involved?
...with the muffins,or Dr. Jeff?
The muffins are exciting people's interest today, and well they should as future nominees for Best Recurring Character of the Year. I notice Joy takes pains to be sure she represents that some of the muffins Mary doled out to Wilbur have been eaten, only three left in the bag... I detect a note of sadness in the muffins that remain.
perhaps Sunshine and Lollipops should be added to the jukebox? Surely that's the reference Wilbur was shooting for (and missed, of course)
So what is it with the muffins? They have been in almost EVERY Mary Worth panel since the new year, most notably last Sunday's "passing of the Ceremonial muffin", and now today's duo "toast of the muffins". What's next? The tri-muffin "blessing of the trinity" with Wilbur, Dawn, AND Mary all together? Will the three muffins link and form a "You Are Loved" community?Muffin Power -- ON!
SaturdayDawn forgot to add "fatter" to the other adjectives. And, judging by the appearance of those muffins, when Mary has leftover muffin batter Mr. Allora uses it to patch potholes in the Charterstone parking lot.
“Wiser, stronger, better”?? Add “faster” and you have Bionic Muffins. Also, when you toast with Mary’s muffins, do you get a clinking noise?
Sobering? Ha-Ha! Tell it to Aldo!
If Wilbur joins the Mob, will he be known as Willy Muffins?
Wiser? WISER?! Wilbur, aren't you the guy recently seen hiding in the bushes, stealing the last you dumped, and tried to get back and spurned you, leaving you try run to your geriatric sage to vent?Wiser?
(stalking, not stealing)And HA! to Yahoonski
MMMM! Muffins! Dawn's working on her muffin top! Wilbur already has a Bundt cake overflowing over his waistband.
