Mary Worth 2816

In panel one, it is clear that Mary is uncomfortable with Ted's lingering hug. In panel two, however, it's "boys will be boys." Plus, Mary looks like she's ready for a nap instead of a furious phone call to her boyfriend Dr. Jeff Cory, M.D.

Panel one. Can’t push him out the door fast enough. I mean, literally PUSH! Panel two. Sigh, best experience I’ve had in years. What a great guy. I think I was more comfortable with the financial scam scenario.

Is this what Jeff meant by Ted being "a character"? Something doesn't compute, Baren Koy. "Oh that Harvey Weinstein, what a character!" Yuck.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

"Playing The Part Of Nancy Reagan/Phyllis Schlafly Just Saying Goodbye Will Be Mary Worth".

Thanks for doing
the taste test Ted!
I'll give our muffin venture
further thought!
Goodbye!
Okay, M--
Ted Miller...
character!

Yes, Wanders, Mary's behavior this week has been very atypical. She has previously come across as a strong-willed woman who would never tolerate being grabbed like that and would be angry about it. But here she is, dismissing this as Ted being a "character."

So she must be sinking into senility or some other form of mental illness. If she spends one more minute entertaining this creep's muffin fetish, then we'll know for sure, and it will be time to confiscate her computer before she writes back to that Nigerian prince.

P.S. Not that my noodles are completely buttered, as I have just spent ten minutes analyzing a comic character's behavior. Oh well.

I still can't figure out what it is about Mary that has practically every man she meets falling for her (Jeff, Aldo, Ken Kensington, John Dill, Frank Griffin, and now Ted). But... in looking down through Wanders' list of labels to see if I'd missed anyone, I stopped in at a few places. I suggest that if you need a good laugh today, check out the "Flashback Mary" label. I can't remember anything in this strip that has been that funny since Uncle Joe left us. Plus Wanders' comments are priceless!

Oooh, Nance! I was worried when I saw how much text was in bold today. It's beyond Boldface Haiku, syllable count wise... Glad you gave "muffin venture" it's own line. Now, I have to know why the Phyllis Schaffly reference? I am intrigued, but maybe not as intrigued as Mary appears to be. I fear SHE is suspending her usual judgment due to getting a spontaneous hug from the "character". Perhaps Dr. Jeff is just WAY too cautious for this wild woman..

She just got groped by some creepy conman/salesman and all she can come up with is "What A character!" I'm waiting for her to shake her head and make some coffee and hear canned laughter in the background. Like Medical Assistant Jared would say "SHEESH!"

longtime lurker, first time commenter - and the reason why is I simply feel compelled to comment that while I sort of appreciate the um... attempt at solidarity with the #metoo movement, Mary seems really out of character. Isn't this the sassy gal who yelled 'CAPISCE' in Aldo Kelrast's face?? XD

It's hard to say what's going on in the second panel. Mary's face is not easy to read. She might be exasperated and thinking "what a character" in a sardonic way, because that's how Jeff described him.

I guess we'll have to see what's next. I wanted to see her kick him in the groin.

So is Dr. Jeff NOT a character? Does Mary think Dr. Jeff is just a typical, conventional bore and that's why she will let him feed her (free meals at the Bum Boat) but not touch her (or marry her)?

Like Anonymous 3:41 PM, I too am a longtime lurker, first time commenter. My theory is Mary being pursued by all these men is KM's fantasy. She is living vicariously through Mary. Sad!
