That’s the second time we have seen muffins being clinked together in a toast. (Well, the sound would be more a “bumpf” than a “clink”.) I’ve heard of toasted muffins, but muffin toasting? Is this some sort of trendy California thing that we don’t yet know about in flyover country? Would it work as well with, say, chocolate chip cookies or any other baked good?
I am surprised there are no !!!!! over Mary's head.
Ted is getting way too creepy. If he put his hand that close to me, he would have his face slapped and would be asked to leave. Instead, Mary's going to say something banal again like "I left the stove on" or I left the iron on, see you later." Then when he leaves she'll go "What a character" instead of threatening to call the police. he'll then tell Jeff about Ted's creepy "what a character" behavior and Jeff, who's just as clueless as Mary, will laugh it off.
What gets me mad is that sexual harassment is a serious matter. I was a victim at my previous job and I can tell you that I didn't consider the harassers "characters". As usual Baren Coy takes a serious matter and makes it less serious than it should be. Her clumsy attempts at showing sexual harassment is really annoying me, more so than she thinks you can wander in to a store and sell muffins with the store not knowing where they came from and how they were made. For all these people who are buying them know they could have been made in a rat infested back room.
I'm sorry for getting off track, but this is like the second or third time that KM has dropped the ball on something serious. I read way too much into this comic.
PS: My biggest wish is for everyone to buy Mary's Magic Muffins to get E Coli.
I would like to think that Karen Moy, in her signature heavy handed way, is trying to reference the harassment-aware environment we inhabit at the moment, (including the generational cluelessness of the main characters), but the focus on the improbable muffin production keeps pulling me away... Will this be a defining moment for this plot? Guessing not, unless Mary takes that muffin and mashes it into Ted's clueless face....
I like Ted's business plan: 1) Sell (and give away?) muffins at Aileen's Grocery on weekends (using Mary's kitchen/labor) 2) Magic 3) Fame, riches and a sweeping success for both Ted and Mary! 4) Expand to a frozen food line (Mary will need a bigger condo) 5) Rinse and repeat
Does the small font for Ted’s “So am I” attempt to indicate his sexy, come-hither tone? If so, it’s not working. Ted is a creep.
I second everyone else’s remarks about how tone deaf KM is with contemporary social issues. I guess we shouldn’t expect more from someone who thought a college student going to her prof’s home to practice yoga was legitimate,
What I never expected: to see Mary Worth in the same situation as Betty Boop in a 1930s pre-Code cartoon, where a lecherous male rubs her leg. Mary will now have to belt out "Don't Take My Boop Oop a Doop Away."
I wonder if Ted sold his idea to Aileen with an overlong hug? Is he supposed to have Kelrastically fixated on Mary, or is he just an opportunistic harasser? Probably the first, since the focus must remain on Mary.
Everytime I see "Mary Muffin" I think to myself, "That's a great name for a pony!" Not such a great name for a muffin. As for this - ewww. Just stop. Seriously. I'm hoping the next panel will feature death of a saleman.
I think that the location of Amogam Builders, Sivakasi - 628123. Tamilnadu, South India, ,may be a nice place for Mary to open her first muffin shop. She'll be a hit!
Mary! An "Ahem!" that's not followed by your immediate dressing down of Mr. Inappropriate for putting his &##!%% hand on your thigh is a faux pas on your part. I KNOW you can be firmer than this, girl!

Oh, and Ted? Move that hand or lose it.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled
"So...Ted Miller: Great Saleman, Lousy Friend, Big Creep".
Raved! Big!
Enjoy! Encouraged!
--So am I.--
Judging by the fact that Ted is somehow able to hold on to the muffin in his non-groping hand without dropping it, these must actually be sticky buns.

Ted could have saved a lot of time and effort is he went to Match.com instead. Is mary really that much of a catch?

Thought it was all about the muffins, but it was all about the muffin.
My nomination for (worst) panel of the year!
talk to the hand because saleman don`t wanna listen...

What would Saul Lewman do?

Hit 'em where it hurts, Mary!
Amogam Builders, if you're going to comment, kindly make it germane to Mary Muffins!
THURSDAY
Is Ted proposing that one of the fruits of Mary's labors will be an amorous encounter with Mr. Turtleneck? Bleah!
If Mary simply wants a broader circle of people to enjoy her muffins, isn't Wilbur broad enough?

I made this for a different comics... appreciation? group. Thought I'd share it with you folks.
