Mary Worth 2862

I have no idea why Dick's Sporting Goods wasn't willing to pay the fee for appearing in Mary Worth. Clearly, it was Karen Moy's intent to make a little bank by having Wilbur buy shoes there. I guess the promotional agreement didn't work out at the last minute, but by then it was too late to make Wilbur's shoe purchase AT ALL RELEVANT TO THE PLOT!!

"I'll buy these new sneakers and walk amidst the flora and fauna!" Said no one, ever.

For some reason, I distinctly remember Mary asking someone “Are you a fan of flora and fauna in general?” at some point. It may even have been Aldo Kelrast. Any hints in the archive, Professor Wanders?

This is actually more exciting than I expected. On Monday I thought we were getting a week of Wilbur talking about his shower.

@Delilah, you beat me to it LOL. I've been on this earth a pretty long time and I have never heard anyone talk like that. Maybe they talked like that in Charles Dickens's time, but not now. Maren Koy must be reading Jane Austen or Danielle Steele and taking notes from the dialogue in the books.

I'm very surprised that Wilbur went to Rick's Sporting Goods. I was almost certain he would go to Dayless Shoes.

Cue Mother Nature to disappoint Wilbur! As Wilbur walks amidst the flora and fauna, let’s have one of those crazy-eyed squirrels who tried to drop a tree limb on Mary make a direct hit on Wilbur. Olive’s tummy brain won’t be nearby to intercede. June is chomping at the bit to draw that after a week of clouds of steam and a combover.

After walking amidst the flora and fauna in his new footwear, Wilbur comes home to discover he's tracked goose poop all over the place, including his carpet. Realizing that Mother Nature has disappointed him, he bursts into tears.

Meanwhile in Beautiful Italy, one of Harlan's troubled students confides to him about feeling lonely and abandoned. After listening for two minutes, he tells her to suck it up and get over it. She says, "You know what? You're absolutely right. I'm gonna do just that! Thanks, Mr. Jones!"

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

"It Sounds Like Five Minutes With A Toddler, And In A Way, It Is".

New sneakers!
Do!
Disappointed!

So, Wilbur has never been disappointed by Mother Nature? And he lives in California? Maybe he’s about to find out that Mother Nature is bipolar and off her meds. Cue the mudslide!

Dialogue that will never appear in Worthverse: Mary's wrong, I'll join a gym, or go out for dinner tonight.

Hilarious comments today, everyone! Glad you picked "Dayless Shoes", Regina. They certainly are not "Pay Full Shoes." Had Wilbur gone there, we would know his pocketbook has become rather slim.

Wilbur doesn't meet a new woman on his nature walk. He finds a little coffee shop with better muffins than those Mary makes. The ultimate unfaithfulness.

"Hi, my name is Flora, can I help you find a pair of shoes, sir?"

He is sadly mistaken if he thinks Mother Nature has never let him down. I’m pretty sure the set up is that he will find love in the shoe department. I just hope his feet don’t smell as bad as the shoes we had to look at suggest.

There is a Rick's Sporting Goods in Mammoth Lakes, but surely, that would be too far for Wilbore to travel. Doesn't Santa Royale have Sneaker Shop? It would be a nice touch if a little earthquake hit just when Flora shows him the newest model of walking shoe; just a 5-pointer to dramatize the moment.

Ah hah! Found it:

A trademark Moyian turn of phrase. Unlike Wilbur, Aldo was not a plant enthusiast.

Santa Royale flora: palms, grass, a few different trees
Santa Royale fauna: pet dogs, birds maybe, I think there was a squirrel once, fish on the Bum Boat walls, flower fairies, ???

Maybe now we'll get a story arc of Mother Nature messing with Wilbur. He could get bitten by a rattlesnake, fall into poison ivy, get caught in a flash flood, get chased by angry coyotes, get mauled by a bear, end up coated in ticks...there are so many possibilities here.

Wow- I get busy for a few weeks and come back first to a day off Wilbur in the shower and now Wilbur buying shoes. I can't wait until the weekend when Wilbur vacuums his car.

All that said, I'm looking forward to Mother Nature bring the next woman to disappoint Wilbur.

You made me laugh, Regina, but Wilbur's so dense he would go to Paymore Shoes.

Wait ... isn't Mother Nature in this strip ... wait for it ... a pink, sugar-spun statue of ... MARY WORTH??? ... on top of a beautiful pink cake? Also, in panel one, are those the purple sidewalk people from Apartment 3-G?

I am on the EDGE of my SEAT! I can't WAIT to find out what happens NEXT! Who comes up with these EXCITING "plots"?
