I thought of many of you as we drove through Ohio yesterday. I can’t get today’s comics to load properly, and we need to hit the road, so I thought I’d share this:
We spent the night in a Holiday Inn Express in South Bend, Indiana, where Housekeeping has a great sense of humor:

LOL Wanders, the adventure has begun. Have a safe and happy trip! Also, don't sit on a bench and start crying, because you never know when a magical person may come up to you and tell you that the lord doesn't give us more than we can handle!
WHen you said you were going to California, I was going to tell you to see the Brown Derby. No, the restaurant is long gone, but the derby is still there. I believe it's in Koreatown. However, there is a Brown Derby restaurant at Disneyland. Be sure to order the monkfish stew. (If they have it there.)
Anyway, today's strip. The first words out of my mouth were "Oh brother." Then I saw the floating head and realized we have a Worthy award nominee. I'm waiting for KM to use the Lord Tennyson quote "Tis better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all."
Dawn is such a drama queen. Sheesh.
@Regina Wolfe-Parks. You must have missed it - KM did use the Lord Tennyson quote - Sunday, Sept. 8th.
@Anonymous, I did miss it. Seattlepi cuts off the top panel. I should have known KM would be that trite.
Wanders, did you sing karaoke amidst huge clouds of steam? NPR’s Morning Edition today has a feature on “Don’t Stop Believen.’” Maybe Mary will burst into the Weston apartment bellowing that song and raining muffins on Dawn. I know I’m ready to rain things on Dawn. I’ll start with rocks. (Mary’s muffins may be just as hard.)
Argh, make that “Believin.’”
At least Dawn has finally left the airport. I’m going to count that as progress. Well, at least physical progress. Mentally she’s still completely stuck.
Next stop for Dawn: Driving to the house that Hugo painted to grieve. The owners call the police, Mary bails Dawn out of jail and feeds her platitudes and muffins. I'm with KitKat, someone needs to rain things on Dawn and Mary's muffins would be perfect. She makes so many I am sure some are quite stale.
Wanders, since you couldn't load today's strip properly, we can assure you that you didn't miss a thing.

So, M. Wanders, if you've made it to South Bend, probably driving on 90, you've passed the RV Hall of Fame in Elkhart, IN. If you drive back on 90, it's worth a stop! You may know about the roadsideamerica.com app but if not, it's worth putting on your phone. It finds roadside attractions in every state, and if you see new stuff, you can submit tips. Fabulous! I actually paid $$ to put the app. on my phone. Enjoy! As for Dawn and the cliched doves outside her window, it looks like a soggy week for the pillows in her dad's condo.
Today's Boldface Haiku is titled
"She Shares Sheer Hell With Her Seashell".
Love!
Heart...
Ever?
@Nance
Hahahaha, BFH Title of the Year candidate!

TUESDAY
In panel 2, is the black thing on the pillow a visual metaphor of Dawn’s black mood, or a shadow? If the latter, what kind of light could possibly be shining on her? Sunday’s encounter with random uplifting person of color sure wore off fast. Maybe Dr. Sweater Vest’s business card is somewhere in the apartment.
@Nance, your BFH title yesterday was another gem.
@Nance, yesterday's BFH was excellent as always.
TUESDAY: Another day of mopey, crying Dawn. Is it ever going to end? My advice is that she needs to read the book "It's Not You, It's Him." She has way too much invested in a relationship that began on July 9th. (Yea, I went and looked to see when this debacle started.) Either that or get in that shower girl and sing Patsy Cline's "I Fall to Pieces." (No disrespect to Ms. Cline, but I like Michael Nesmith's version better, but I digress.)
Sheesh Dawn, you only knew the guy two months! Stop acting like a silly teenager! You're 35 years old for cripes sake! Isn't it time for you to be back in school for your 35th semester?
I'm surprised Mary hasn't been over with some abomination she's made so she can meddle. Mary's slipping.
Regina, I am certain there will be a Mary sighting before the end of the week. Perhaps Dawn will exhaust that box of tissues in front of her, which will give her an excuse to sniffle her way down the hall to Mary's. For once, Mary might provide something useful--tissues instead of muffins. And Nance, I too would vote for your BFH title yesterday for Title of the Year. Inspired!
Thanks everyone! I'm going to skip today's Boldface Haiku and do a George Costanza until Dawn is done emoting and her eyes are done leaking.
Poor Pwned Dwnd — Hugo could’ve killed you anytime all summer, but he left you alive. To suffer.
