Hey, it looks like Toby gets a May-December romance story as well! Wait, isn't she already living a May-December romance story? I'm having trouble keeping track of what month it is!
But here's the calendar as best I can remember:
- Wilbur and Fabiana
- Dawn and Ned
- Dawn and Harlan
- Iris and Zak
- Eve and Saul
- Toby and Ian
- Ian and Janni
- Toby and Cal

Question for June: In p. 1, why did “College” barely make it onto the sign? Poor use of negative space?
We got to see Brenda’s work yesterday, but not a peek of Cal’s. I really want to see how he employed negative space and his expressive linework.
Thursday flashback: Thank you, @meg, for wrapping up the saga of Wilbur’s return. Mr. Allora’s greeting had me in stitches. If anyone missed the post, go back and read it!
How about Wilbur and Mary? I mean - the way she defended him upon his miracle return from the tropical isle? There's either something going on here or Wilbur has incriminating photos of her. Maybe Mary in the 1920's wearing a "bathing outfit" that showed some calf.
Ms. Cameron? I know it is not uncommon for women to use the Ms. designation, but in this case is Toby on a "fishing" expedition looking for a young guppy to mentor?
Can't wait to see the shocked reaction of Toby to having her student hit on her. The nerve of some people!
Thanks, KitKat for the wrap-up of the saga of Wilbur.
KitKat,
Maybe using the small "college" on the sign is better than "glorified high school".
@Thunderheels, maybe enclosing it in quotation marks would be appropriate, i.e., “College.”
Wanders, you definitely called it. I would request Mrs Robinson for the jukebox too, but your bulleted list is getting to be so lengthy it must be on there at least 4 or 5 times already.
Come to think of it I think even Estelle and Wilbur are supposed to be different in age (Mary made some inane comment to her at one point about how people belong together despite differences in age and "even against personal preferences").
Without any shred of snark or irony though, June truly is an awesome artist and I would love to be in her class. In just that second panel from yesterday (Toby shyly looking over the paper at Cal's "excellent lines"), she evocatively summed up the entire storyline in what is certain to take Karen months of turgid and hilariously perplexing verbiage.
Plus as others pointed out it's pretty awesome that June decided to christen it "SANTA ROYALE COMMUNITY college". She's subtly acknowledging that it may be located in the community of Santa Royale, but any institution with Toby on the faculty is no college by any stretch of the term.
Sorry to nitpick, but it wouldn't really be May-December. Toby isn't that old. May-September, perhaps.
Speaking of negative space...
Thanks, KitKat!
Toby's looking more like Brenda's drawing every day. And unless Cal's drawing is of a flea, how much "negative space" could there be? The art class must be on a tight budget. That piece of paper is about the size of a sheet of toilet paper.

It’s rather obvious where this story is going. No, not the so-called May-December student-instructor romance. When Ian sees young Cal, he will immediately notice that Cal ‘s lank and rank flannel shirt is of the Cameron Clan tartan.
“Well, lad, ur ye ay th’ Cameron Clan?”
“My dad was”. “Do I know him?”
“ Ah don’t ken heem myself. Mom always said he was a big fat blooter’d cheil in Greenwich Village. She had a one nicht stand with him after a Burns Night dinner, and she ne’er saw hem again.”
Toby: “Did he hae, er, have a bushy white beard?”
“Ay, he did.”
“Mah son! I’ve bin searchin’ fur ye!”
“Gotta go! Don’t want to miss my next class!”
Och Meg, I laik where ye'ar gaein wi'd dat. I've been envious of Wilbur's fake son for years. And what could be more Worthy than extremely stilted parent-child interactions plus a fake intergenerational romance that goes nowhere. Bring on the haggis muffins!
Here’s a bit of Toby and Ian in Greenwich Village:

Negative space? I'm guessing that Cal drew stick figures. Not that there's anything wrong with that.
-- Scottie McW.
It's a small college.
When is Mary going to get some of this younger man action? Dr. Jeff clearly is no longer floating her boat...
SATURDAY
Vicki must be a nontraditional student.
So far, Toby has gushed over everyone’s work. I bet Chinbeard doesn’t do that, except for female students who flatter him constantly.
SUNDAY: Ha ha. It's funny because Ian's not wearing any pants. No kilt, either.
