Your secret message raises a good point, Wanders. Have Zak’s parents met Iris? Were they self-absorbed parents who foisted him off on his Nan? Does she know about Iris?

OK, indeed teen boys and young men sometimes act stupid, like they think they're invincible. But isn't Zak 25? Plus, even toddlers understand the danger of long falls to the ground. It's an instinct in most people.
I would imagine that by the time Iris was 25 she had already had Tommy. She was probably not thinking of herself as invincible at all. If we assume that Tommy's dad was a less than helpful, loving spouse, then she probably felt trapped and miserable and wondered if her life would ever be better.
Too bad that Moy forgot about Tommy. But no surprise; looks like Iris has forgotten about him too.

Oh my god, it would be amazing if Zak cheated death at the cliff just to choke on a dumpling.
Zak had to fall off a cliff to learn that falling off a cliff is not a good idea.
"I learned my lesson. Luckily, it wasn't a fatal one!"
