“About that marriage thing…I’ve had a change of heart. If you’re going to continue to be immature and reckless, I’d much rather be a rich widow than a penniless girlfriend with no means of support.”
Zak is delighted, and they’re off to Las Vegas in the morning. The honeymoon is bungee jumping at the Grand Canyon.
I can’t believe KM will have Iris say anything but “When you were dangling from that cliff, I realized you were the love of my life. Of course I’ll marry you!”
Picture Tommy as the ring bearer and Mary as matron of honor. Don’t waste time picturing Mary and Jeff in their own futon of fornication (good one, Wanders!).
Carlye: That would be INTERESTING! So it probably won’t happen. I thought he was dead, but maybe he’s been in some sort of institution (cough, jail). From now on, that’s my dream scenario.
My dream scenario is shaping up to be every last one of these characters checking out to the afterlife and the strip continuing, daily showing a sequence of June's stock settings (the outside of C-stone with the lilies waving in the breeze, Mary's kitchen, the Bum Boat, the walking path, etc) completely devoid of people. If June chooses to throw in a dog once in a while, that would be fine. Dogs are great.
Carlye and meg - I remember Tommy saying that his father died in a hospital, but I suppose that doesn't necessarily mean that Tommy's father was Iris's husband.
KitKat - me too! "Oh, Rawwwwwwwwwwwb!"
Yahoonski - But... wouldn't that be sort of like staring, every day, at a Thomas Kinkade painting with a dog? A pinkish, yellowish, bluish glowing dog?
Helen- and maybe that’s just what Iris told him. Tommy, Daddy’s gone to live with the angels…in San Quentin.
I would like to see Elon Musk buy Mary Worth and fire all the characters. There would be months of strips showing the characters wandering the Comics Kingdom, trying to get on in other strips.
Wilbur could probably get a job as Dagwood’s sandwich-scarfing buddy (Sorry, Herb, I have a new best friend). And Dawn could hook up with Alexander. After he dumps her, Dawn will wind up in Nancy, since their haircuts are identical.
Ian will get a job on the Doonesbury radio station as a big blowhard political commentator, and Toby will get the name of Boopsie’s hair colorist.
Saul and Eve will move in with Mr and Mrs. Wilson, but the dogs will have to board with Dennis and Ruff.
Estelle will be swindled by one of the Dick Tracy villains, and will begin an emotional affair with Tracy’s partner, Sam Catchem.
Zak will hang out with Jeremy and Hector and Pierce in Zits, playing video games and forever reliving the financial glory of Zakicks.
Iris splits up from Zak and begins an affair with Sarge in Beetle Bailey. Ever the education hound, Iris enrolls in Camp Swampy Community college and continues to work toward her associates degree in pathology.
And what of Mary Worth? When last seen, she was sharing Lucy’s booth and selling apples while providing advice. Full circle… eh?

No no no! The correct response is "and talking of trouble…" and fade to black.

Oh Zak, I just can't resist your immaturity mixed with the constant harping. Yes, I will be Mrs. Zak!
Oh my, Toto. I’ve got a feeling we’re not in New Rochelle anymore.

@HelenClark, thanks for the Rob and Laura Petrie reference! I love love love that show.
“Zak, I need to talk to your mother.”
About that marriage thing...I may not actually be divorced.

But Elon Musk will retain Mr. Allora’s services and provide him with a Tesla as a company car.
Sad, Mr Allora has become forgotten. Is there no respect for a person of color, or a person who works for a living?
