Oh, sure, it all starts out innocent enough... but then something INTERESTING happens and before you know it, substitute professor Harlan Jones is stretched out on a yoga mat in a green sweat suit imagining he's Michelangelo painting the Sistine Chapel and converts to Catholicism.
And like the rest of humanity, I have interest in only one subject. For me, it is Mary Worth. That's it. And the more wonderful this dialog becomes, the more interested I am. It's inspiring.
It's not as incongruous as it sounds. Da Vinci does make a popular brand of yoga mat:
"I'm glad you were inspired today by my class on Da Vinci. And I appreciate that you've taken the time to express to me that you were inspired by my class on Da Vinci. I was very anxious -- as a substitute professor -- about my class on Da Vinci, and your positive feedback assures me that my class on Da Vinci was inspiring. As I hoped it would be."
Boy, if this is what it takes to inspire students these days -- green suit, engaging multimedia -- I'm not sure it's even worth being a substitute professor anymore.
Today's installment has EVERYTHING! Where to begin... where to begin... Okay, let's just start with the mysterious shadow on the wall. For some reason, this classroom's overhead florescents just seem to be missing one triangular segment near the corner of the classroom... but wait a minute... where's the corner of the classroom? Spooky. Moving on. Professor Jones's Easter suit is dapperly accented with a carrot shaped tie. Oh, how I wish it were orange. Missed opportunity for an art professor to really nail down his reputation for fashion, color and design. And thank you for writing "art history" on that oh-so-last-century chalk board so late in the semester, just in case someone wasn't quite sure what they'd been studying. And, why is there a desk at the front of the classroom? I thought this was college, but perhaps it is fourth grade.
And for those who have experienced it, nothing is more difficult than losing a professor just before finals. Everything is up in the air and you have no idea how to prepare. Dawn is going to be a basket case!
Good ol' James. Always starting clubs and stuff. And that crazy folding table he's always setting up in obscure places, like near the Student House. Let's see how fast Dawn can get away from this geek.
