Mary Worth 364

Meddling at its finest! And nothing makes up for a lifetime of verbal and emotional abuse like a nice designer scarf.

Today's Full Strip.

I take a couple of days off and you'e back!! Glad to hear you're back on your feet and good luck with the new job. Shame about the lousy timing but that's life.

I will miss the daily comments but as someone already said, with the glacial pace of the storylines, we'll all survive.

The pictorial of the scarf was a hoot wasn't it? What else did they think we'd picture without it?

*you're* back - sheesh, proofread before posting ...

How awkward can this get. I don't know a thing about skating and I can tell this is way goofy. Now we are going to break out a designer scarf as motivation and acknowledgement for a great job? How old is this daughter? Is she really somebody's GamGam!?

I can't believe this storyline is resolved so easily -- and with a scarf of all things! So this whole trip, the long conversation with Jeff about whether or not she should take it, all the over the head exclamation points from Frank's abusive diatribes....all this for a scarf.

Thanks, Mary Worth. And while you're at it, could you talk to my boyfriend for me? I would really like a designer scarf for Christmas.

Don't worry miss em; the storyline can't be resolved yet. The long program, with its showdown between Lynn and Liesl, is good for another week or two at least.

"I got this designer scarf to strangle Lynn with as punishment for coming in second but...I suppose I could give it to her as a gift instead. Thanks Mary, you're ace!"

WOW, DAD, A DESIGNER SCARF!!!? FOR ME? I'm so excited. It's something I've always wanted. And you're giving it to me now instead of Christmas? My friends will be so envious. And now that I know how much you really love me, I can go out and skate with a clear head and point my toes and keep it tight and all that stuff just like you always tell me. But something tells me that your old friend Mary Worth had something to do with this. Even though I'm young I can tell that she is wise. So, thank you too Mary.

Oy, Moy!

Mary Worth: Cultural icon. Comics royalty. And now, Shill for the Retail Industry.

"Remember, Frank: When you invest in a designer scarf, you invest in your daughter's happiness -- and in our nation's future!"

Because if the stores are empty, the terrorists have already won.

Frank's orange sweater keeps turning to a jacked and back again.

Jacket, oops.

And what is Lynn's lesson learned from all this?

"Let Daddy abuse you and you'll get pretty things."

Well played, Mary Worth! Another life ruined. Your work here is done.

Time to drop $20 bills to the bottom of vodka bottles and play 'Secret Santa' at the local AA meetings.

Whoops! Or as you call it, 'donating much-needed money to the less fortunate'.

Baha: Having spent much time and taxpayer money studying the matter, I would be remiss if I did not remind you how the Inverse Temporal Displacement Theory works in Mary's universe.

'The amount of time it takes to accomplish a task in the Worthiverse is inversely proportional to the amount of time it takes to accomplish the same task in our universe.'

The Long Program should be over in about half of a panel, like Ian's afternoon-long 'three day' business trip to Chicago. If it was called the Really Short Program, we'd be watching it until well into April of 2009. Like Toby's sixteen-week 'half-hour' lecture from Ensign Antivirus.

I hate to get all know-it-all here, but I've got a grant application pending where I plan to study the mechanics of Mary's hair and I need to look busy for the Board of Directors.

Maybe Karen Moy is secretly reading our snarky comments and has come to the conclusion that she really needs to pick up the pace of the stories (kind of like they used to go in the 50's). So who needs actual emotional depth, character development, or semblence of reality--for the sake of the timeline, we'll have Frank's tyrannical nature melt to nothingness just by stepping outside with Mary Worth and opting to give away that handsome designer scarf. Then we can get back to the next snappy story line.

I still think all the great ideas generated a few weeks ago for the cross-country trip to Lake Tranquil would be great. Maybe Karen has them all stored up for the trip home. I can just see the phone call to Dr. Jeff now: "Oh, it only took me (insert your preferred period of time here) to make the coach of that skater touted on TV to come around to loving his daughter. I think I'll catch a Greyhound bus home to see the majestic wonders of this land of ours. Don't keep dinner waiting--it'll probably take a while."

And did I read that correctly? Frank's speech balloon had a thought bubble? Can't Frank do his own thinking for himself? I thought he was the one in control? I'm so confused now.

Mary must not think very much of the pain Lynn's endured all these years of not pleasing her father enough to think it can all be forgotten with a cheap discount (designer) scarf from Ross!

A designer scarf? What kind of gift is that?!?. I was hoping for at least glass swans, or perhaps something from the "pretty purposes" collection.
