Wow, 11:30 a.m. (EDT) and not a single comment yet. Ms. Moy, I hope you've been reading this blog lately to see how excruciatingly boring this storyline is and how Wilbur and his creepy gestures/face touching are repulsing everyone.
"Instead I'll be using the time to call all my friends to tell them I won't be using the internet."My 6 year old's comment as the kite flying ended yesterday: "I think Wilbur wants to get back to the internet."
I love Dave's kid. But not in any creepy kind of Wilbur way.
A single kite flying experience with Wilbur has forced Dawn to regress into petulant teen time.
Her teddy bear's name is Wilbur.
Does anyone know how old Dawn is supposed to be?
"I've decided to talk like a baby and have Teddy Bear tea parties every Saturday with my Daddy! It will be oh, so much fun, Cathy!"
Dawn needs a boyfriend... desperately!
Did Moy forget to tell us that Dawn is mentally challenged and peretually stuck in childhood? Even her bed is designed for a little girl. If she were to stretch out to sleep, her feet would be sticking over the edge by two feet.
Syndi, I think Wanders did some searching and said four years ago Dawn was 20 yrs old. I not sure exactly where his post is.But that would make Dawn 24 years old. She should be finishing up her Masters's degree.
"I'm taking a break every Saturday. My teddy bear needs me."
Well, Mike, we know her Masters in not in GRAMMAR!
Good for you, Dawn! It's time you stopped letting your online accounts push you around! Stop responding to them, and they'll eventually give up!
Keep in mind Mike that the last month of this strip covered not more than 3 days, so Dawn can't be more than 21.That last month and this plot though has irreversibly aged me....
Dawn: I lost sleep due to insomnia... But (get this) the INSOMNIA was due to my ONLINE ACCOUNTS!!Cathy: Whaaa?! Whoa... WOW!Me: I will respond to this online account after reading tomorrow's Mary Worth. I use it to catch up on fun I lost due to insipidity.
That teddy bear looks creepily happy about Dawn's "epiphany" and upcoming rejection of the online menace on her happy kite-flying Saturdays to be. Apparently Dawn hadn't been spending adequate time with her childhood plush companion lately either.
You would think that Dawn's online experience would be enough to scare me off the internet. But no, here I am, also suffering from insomnia due to my addiction, although my too short bed may have something to do with it. If only I could get Wilber to spend a Saturday with me flying kites, I just know everything would be just fine.
Anonymous at 1.51p - don't you know that every single bed in the Worthiverse is that same pink, tightly pulled-covered that looks like it's made of cement.Every single bed.
Dawn is wearing a bangle bracelet that seems to be floating around her wrist--even though her arm is raised!
I've wanted to tell Wilbur and Dawn to go fly a kite for quite awhile.
I'd love to join in on the fun, but I won't be responding to my online accounts today.
I didn't respond to my online accounts yesterday and now I'm overdrawn!
I finally noticed the ads and links on the blog lately for treatment and rehab centers. Product placement is everywhere!
So after the frolicking with kites, did Wilbur feel the need for a ham sandwich???
What scares me about today's strip is that she's still talking to Cathy (and clutching her teddy bear) about spending time with her Dad LAST WEEK! How long has she been on the phone, exactly? And how much longer WILL she be on the phone? Sigh.Is this truly the most boring story we've seen in years, or does it just seem that way because we're in the middle of it and so incredibly bored? Are there other MW storylines that approach it, for pure monotony?
Does Dawn have any friends with names that were popular in the decade in which they were born? "Cathy" must be about 50 years old. Where are Ashley and Jennifer and Brittney and Jessica?
@Phoebes: what is odd is that the beds are the only thing that stay a constant color from panel to panel, unlike say, hair or clothing.
Dave@12.59p - I've often wondered if cartoon artists have set "drawings" they just put in place when needed, like that bed.And faces. Do you notice that all the women have the same basic face as Mary and things are added to the face or colored differently, to make a different characters face?phoebes-in-santa fe
@Punky - what scares ME is that we're all still reading this story...what can possibly happen that will make this story remotely interesting?
@Elaine - was wondering the same thing, then it "dawn"ed on me...oh dear, what if something BIG is going to happen to Wilbur and this is a prelude to his having a heart attack or something!? Esp. since Cathy lost her dad!We all know the bad eating habits Wilbur has, and maybe Moy is now going to harangue us about healthy eating and spending "quality time", etc...
remotely interesting? Cathy "Cath" Phonefriend
nevermind Cathy. I vote with Vicki in favor of Wilbur's heart attack! followed by a hospital stay, recovery, and weight-loss plan
@Vicki - good thinking! And Moy will be certain to turn it into some kind of moral lesson, thereby changing it from a juicy story to one of complete boredom. And here I was, thinking it couldn't get any worse than this...
Nice thought Vicki--maybe Wilbur can go the way of the (false) Mama Cass Elliott death mthod--choking on a ham sandwich.
The originality is striking. Triumph of family over addiction.I don't think it's ever been done before, certainly not in such an entertaining manner. Might there be a Pulitzer in Moy's future?
