Mary Worth 1,389

I didn't feel my world was ending until AFTER this strip.

Today's Full Strip

And there you have it folks! From Dawn's initial "Oh GOD, no!" so many months ago, to this totally unexpected moral. Aren't you happy you stuck with it? So, except for the Sunday Summary strip, we will have a new adventure come Monday...unless, of course, Mary tells Dr. Jeff all about it for the next week or so.

So all we need now is some Captain Kangaroo or Tom Terrific music to punctuate the End of the Story.

diddle-ink, diddle-ink diddle-ink...

Again with the 'Dave'.

Pool party Sunday, or do we have a 7 panel recap of the ship mishap?

I see the next story arc coming already, as Mary is about to spill an entire cup of steaming hot coffee in her lap.

But, suddenly, Dave bursts in from the Charterstone condo common area, causing Mary to nearly spill her steaming hot coffee into her lap!

Dave: (angrily) I heard that!
Dawn: So? I'm over you. Life is beautiful without you. I'm devoting my life to Maritime Law. I'm transferring to UCLA from junior college and Giorgio is paying half my tuition.
Mary: A stitch in time saves nine.
Wilbur: If you're not going to finish your radish rose, can I have it?
Mary: Of course. Waste not, want not.
Dave: That's it. I'm out of here. Some guy in Parma keeps impersonating me, and--
Dawn: --Dad, you're right! I never noticed how flavorful food was before!
Mary: Dave, remember that you have to know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em, know when to walk away, and know when to run.
And tell that lovely Paula that we all said hello.
Dave: Wow. I...I...this has been a revelation. Dawn, I have a newfound respect for you. You have grown so much. I was a fool to have dumped you. Paula is a child. Will you marry me?
Dawn: Yes, oh yes! Here is my heart. (takes off necklace, symbolically)
Mary: Love conquers all!
Wilbur: No honeymoon cruise for you two! Ha ha.

Oh Nance. That would be the perfect Sunday strip.

I would like to think that after Dawn made that statement, she used that hand to slap herself in the face.

Sorry, fauxprof, but Summary Sundays rarely advance the plot in the Worthiverse, but I suppose we can always hope. And I'm sure there is more of this storyline to follow. By Moy's own admission, she likes to do three stories a year, and with Gina's wedding lasting only a few weeks, I'm afraid we have LOTS of time left over for this one to continue on, and on, and on...

Won't the Westons have to be invited to everyone's condo in Charterstone to 'tell the tale' to each of them individually? That should kill some time until the next captivatingly brilliant plot line can be plagiarized, I mean, written.

@Mike in Cleveland: Wow, a Captain Kangaroo/Tom Terrific reference! You are not only a neighbor, but also, I suspect, a fellow baby boomer. Sooooo, presuming you grew up in NE Ohio, Captain Penny or Barnaby?

I second Wanders' remark about Nance's scenario. Nance, if only!

So all the horror, calamity, and loss of life on the Unita del Mare was just so silly Dawn could get over Dave. Isn't life a scream, ha ha?!

fauxprof@10:40 AM, I was a devotee of BOTH Captain Penny and Barnaby. Which makes me think: Have we ever heard Mary say, "You can fool some of the people all of the time, all of the people some of the time, but you can't fool Mom"? If not, maybe Ms. Moy would like to plagiarize that.

What the heck is that potion that Mary is drinking? You could cut that steam with a pair of pruning shears. This strip really drives home the brutality of....this strip...

fauxprof--Oooh, oooh! My dad knew Capt. Penny personally AND the esteemed Captain once spoke directly to my sister on his show! His message? To stop sucking her thumb. Sigh. How old are we...!?

Love reading my fellow Clevelanders who are also addicted to Mary and this blog! I used to live down the street from Barnaby and went to school with his son. Mrs. Barnaby was the room mother when I was in kindergarten. BTW - I am 53.

@Patty in Parma: Where are you? I'm on Brownfield. I remember Captain Penny before the family moved to So. Calif. in 1962 (OK, so I'm 59).

Since we're reliving our childhoods, I'll say I'm "going on" 64. I loved Barnaby the best, but always tuned in to Captain Penny for Jungle Larry and his exotic animals. Mary Worth would be a much happier person if she had had our upbringing!

Dawn may be over Dave, but probably not that tramp Paula. Wilbur may have to take Dawn on another trip - maybe over to the Florida panhandle tomorrow . . .

@ Nance - lol, love it.

Wow, lots of Clevelanders here. Any Philadelphians? We didn't have Captain Penny or Barnaby, but we had Gene London, Chief Halftown, Pixanne, and Sally Starr. Oh, and Mary Worth. (In the funny papers, not on TV.)
