Mary Worth 1,401

Aww, the meaningful life, leaning over the veranda, watching the boys sailing their boats.

Yet, there is something very lovely about this panel. It invoked a memory. I immediately flashed back to my childhood, lying on the deep shag of my parents' living room carpet, reading the Sunday comics. Peanuts, Blondie, The Wizard of Id. I didn't have a care in the world. No responsibilities, no stressful pressures demanding my time, just a vague sense that I was the most important person in the world.

I was just like Dawn.

Do you think, finally, this idiot plot line is finished? Could we start a new line tomorrow? Maybe...please.

A dithering Dawn was not reflexive enough for Moy's barrage of platitudes and blather? Now we get her staring, likely without irony, into the nearby sea?

At least show more whimsical Wilbur, pondering his heroism aboard the cruise liner.

The Cleveland PD cuts off the first two panels of the Sunday Summary strip, so I pulled up the online version only to find a quotation from...Kierkegaard?? Yeah, I'm sure that's what Dawn is contemplating as she stares out, aimlessly, at the sailboats.

Actually she's wondering what to do with her life until season two of Game of Thrones comes out on BluRay.

No release date for GoT season 2 as yet, so it may be a long wait for our Dawnie. Also BluRay lists at $79.98, and Wilbur's credit cards must be maxed out. Maybe a part-time job at Diner is indicated (for Wilbur, not Dawn, of course.)

DAWN! DON'T JUMP!

No, Dawn... don't jump, let me help you over with a gentle nudge of my foot...

BTW, what's up with the unmanned boats floating around untethered?!?

Charterstone is now a beachfront complex? With a view like that, Wilbur's condo would cost something like $9 million.

kathy o. I thought the same thing. I can only assume she's gone for a walk down to the beach. You know, that place where Jenna and one of her boyfriends got buzzy watching fireworks.

Why is everyone so surprised that Wilbur has a big veranda? He's been sitting on it for years.

I think a minor re-write is needed:

MW: The hospital is educational--unlike oh, say college. Dawn may find something more meaningful, for as we all know, she is quite shallow.

Wilbur: Yes, Mary, we all want something more meaningful. But I'd rather sit on the vernada with a cool drink nibbling ham sandwiches than go out and find it. I wonder why Dawn is so selfish?

"It was the Law of the Sea, they said. Civilization ends at the waterline. Beyond that, we all enter the food chain, and not always right at the top." - Hunter S. Thompson

(In other words, it is the sea that is brutal, Dawn.)

Dawn is rocking those 1985 Gloria Vanderbilt jeans!

I am also one of the tired readers hoping for something new tomorrow. How about an Ian storyline? It would give the podcast guys great fodder since the one dude does an awesome blustery British accent.

"We're all trying . . . but we're in the Mary Worth comic strip, so 'meaningful' is pretty much out of the question."

I'm hoping a giant octopus will come up from the depths and drag Dawn down to a watery grave.

We're all trying. Dawn is just more trying than most.

@Argghh: I noticed the empty sailboats, too! I wonder if Dawn is going to snag one and sail off into the sunset forever? That would be awesome, except for the fact she couldn't find the working end of a hammer, so...

As Dawn gazes out to the sea, she hears a voice from a nearby boat.

"Dawn, it's Dave, remember me? I just bought this new boat. Want to come for a ride? It's so safe...and fun...boating..."

After reading your comments about feeling like the most important person in the world, I'm no doubt your only reader with a tear in the eye. But I'm known for blubbering.
