Mary Worth 1,433

Merry? Your sister's name is Merry? Is your father's name Don? And your uncle's name Wyllber? Has Karen Moy finally run out of generic WASP-ish sounding names and resorted to using homophones?

Of course, this could lead to some hilarious farcical hi-jinx, where everyone thinks it was Mary Worth who was killed when the ferry hit the pier. Let the MERRIment commence!

Today's Full Strip

So why didn't Jim mention his sister's death during his first conversation with Dawn? Especially when she mentioned almost losing her own father during her "incident". This makes no sense whatsoever...

I think we're all overcome. With a variety of emotions.

And I can't stop thinking that Jim looks more like he's yakking up his guts than sobbing over his sister.

What a dumpster fire this is.

Kid must have a really bad time at the holidays, what with everyone reminding him of Merry Christmas and all. "Yeah, you let your sister die, now where's my present?"

There's a lot of potential for multiple "Who's on First" situations with the Merry/Mary thing. I always thought that Moy was tone-deaf. Semms that's true in the literal sense.

Shoulda gone with Susie or Beth.

Well, look on the bright side: the poster child for narcissistic personality disorder isn't wearing any purple today. She's branching out with a rose colored blazer to go with her pearls and mom-jeans. Oh wait, no... denim probably wouldn't be allowed. They'd have to be a polyester double knit fabric. All the rage among the "teens" in the teen volunteer program.

Man... this is one constipated plot line...

Jim and Merry's surname should be Mirth.

I'm hoping Jim and Merry's surname is Prankster, but I know my hope will be dashed.

There's no future for Jim and Dawn. Just look at how their wardrobe colors clash.

Mr. KitKat, who also reads the strip, thinks that Merry saved Jim by chewing his arm off.

Her name was Merry, and she was killed at dawn...

I wish Dawn would eat, drink, and be Merry...

Dawn, who can't see Moy's captions, surely thinks Jim's sister's name was "Mary."

Maude Findlay said...

Her name was Merry, and she died on a ferry? Forget boats, I'm thinking Dawn should avoid lawns.

@Tony - Good point. Isn't that an unusual spelling for that name? I have never known anyone who spells it that way. Type in "the name Merry" in Google, and it shows results for "the name Merrick".

And maybe Wilbur should avoid . . . rats, can't think of a rhyme for that.

LOL, Maude Findlay!
When I was guessing names yesterday I almost wrote Mary then thought, no, Moy wouldn't use that name twice. Merry? Didn't see that coming. I did know a girl in school called Merrilee and I couldn't ever say her name without mentally supplying "we roll along" afterwards.

Poor Merry Mirth
fated from birth
to perish on a ferry
poor Merry.

Poorly drawn Dawn
sitting on a lawn.
Let's move on.
.yawn.

Is there any chance Jim elbowed his way to the front of the rescue line, ignoring the cries of poor little 6 year old Merry, who was calling MaMa! and Aiuto!?

No, no decent person would ever do that....or else he and Dawn really do have a lot in common.

When I read this headline, I immediately thought of Santa Royale's landscaping.
