Mary Worth 1,506

Whenever Mary Worth starts talking about her compulsion to help others, I can't help thinking of the greatest monologue ever written. For those of you who weren't reading Mary Worth in 2008, you will really enjoy it. Heck we all will. And I'm so glad to learn that Blonde Jeff has the same compulsion. I'm hoping that he has his own monologue to tell.

The compulsion to help others storyline has stuck in my head for all of these years. In particular, I remember one panel where a young Mary blew on a dandelion with her friend. Something about the eyes in that panel creeped me out and I haven't forgotten it. Thanks Uncle Joe for haunting my nightmares!

Gosh, Wanders, I remember that "compulsion to help others" vignette. How many weeks did that take? Anyway, Mary is now acting on that compulsion not only with poor John Dill, but with her hapless "Ask Wendy" readers. Jeff, just go to the hospital and perform some unnecessary surgery. There's nothing for you here.

Aaaagghhh, Mary and Jeff scare me with all their talk of compulsion! Poor John Dill should drop his royal icing and head for the hills while he still has a chance. Otherwise, he faces annihilation, i.e., being "helped" by Mary.

That monologue was awesome!
Thanks for sharing the nightmare! :)

Holy crap. That monologue is crazytalk. Are you sure Mary's last name isn't Bartlett?

Is it just me, or did Dr. Jeff age quite a bit since earlier this week? And how spacious is the interior of this sports car? It's like a tour bus!

Never read the monologue before - now I have better "perspective" of the Worthiverse. Thanks Wanders, I think.

So is Mary actually admitting to having OCD?

What's OCD? Old Crone's Disease?

MissScarlet said...

Almost the same thing actually! Obsessive Compulsive Disorder is Old Crone's Disease!

Oh, cut the "malarkey" the both of you... you just like to position yourself in relationships with others so you can feel superior to them.

Dr. Jeff has dedicated his life to help save Vietnamese orphans, and Mary is compelled to help some guy win a cake decorating contest. Yes indeed, the similarities are overwhelming.

Thank you for the monologue - that was before my time and, omg, I had no idea it could get that bad.
It is difficult for me to comment because I have been cursed; perhaps we can call it Jim's Revenge for my snarky comments. I broke my right arm when my horse kicked a little too close to me, leaving an impressive horseshoe-shaped bruise right where the fracture radius is. Mary still hasn't shown up with a kelk casserole and I am a bit miffed at her lack of compulsion to help me.

I don't know that much psychology, but I'm pretty sure smugness isn't a compulsive thing...

@Sandi Ego - sorry, Mary is already involved with her one good deed for the year, maybe next year you will get a casserole and/or some unsolicited advice/platitudes.

Sandi Ego,

Don't worry. The Worthiverse and our universe are two different things. You were in the wrong spot when your horse kicked, that's all.

It wasn't a punishment, so keep on snarkin'!
