I don't understand why they don't know each other since they obviously have their hair did by the same sadistic lowlife. For that matter, why does a dynamite burg like Santa Royale only have one beauty operator?

Also, J.R. Clark is a genius.

Goodness, after reading J.R. Clark's thrilling version of the Mary-Elinor confrontation, it's hard to return to Karen Moy speed. Kudos to J.R. Clark!

How much stuff did the Kinleys have in their vehicle, anyway? Were they towing a trailer, or were they driving a clown car that keeps disgorging stuff?

That is one amazing Helper, especially since he has only one leg.

At least we now know why all of the interiors at Charterstone are so awful; the units come fully furnished. All a new owner needs would be his or her clothing and personal care items. The rest is already there. Grey books, purple draperies and sofas, green wall art, and orange and black accents are provided.

I can't wait to see how Elinor Kinley likes Mary's cooking. Nor can I wait to hear Beth and Mary discuss Writer's Block and monitor size.

Let me preface this by saying that I've been reading MW since about 1979, and most of the plots and characters have disappeared from my memory bank. However, I DO remember Carlos Allora (and I thought it was just one "L").

He was a courtly Hispanic man, with a full head of white hair, with a distant and respectful crush on Mary, who had gotten him the job as Charterstone's handyman.

The guy straining with the Kinley's 10,000 pounds of luggage is NOT Carlos Allora/Alora. Maybe it's his cousin Manuel.

Or maybeI'm thinking of "Judge Parker".

@fauxprof: I also remember Carlos Alora just as you described. I also recall that he had something of an attitude, and he left Charterstone in a huff over something; must've been about 25 years ago. Was Moy even writing it then?
Speaking of Moy, will she ever run out of 4-letter first names?

The guy with the moving dolly is not Carlos Alora, the gardener from many years ago. That's the Charterstone maintenance man, Manuel Labor.

J.R. Clark, you amaze me. The final line made me shed a single, dramatic tear.

So deep.

My favorite line so far was on the Sunday strip.

Elinor: The genre is a waste of time.

That must explain the case of adult DVD's the moving man is hurrying past Mary.

While Romantic Novel Writer and Sourpuss Mother move into unit 3B with much fanfare, a beautiful young lady, Victoria Katherina Pimperella Schlossberg von Nostrum, quietly takes up residence in apartment 6K. Although she is the perfect soul mate for Chicken Soup Tom, the two shall never meet since Ms. Schlossberg von Nostrum insists that her full name be used at all times. Ah, fate! How cruel thou art!

It seems this story line has inspired Giella. Beth is adorable in her bob-n-glasses, and MW's jumper and blouse combo look very fetching with her white hair. She is a winter, correct? Granny Elinor (certainly not Beth's 'mother') looks like one of the Undead, but then, that's Charterstone.

Sensational, J.R. Clark! Absolutely brilliant!

It looks to me like Elinor is the "anti-Mary". Same hairdo, same face, just sunken in; same clothes, only grey instead of purple. Just missing that can-do peppy meddling personality.
