Actually, Iris, you probably will see him later... since you decided to move into the same condominium complex as your ex-boyfriend, for whom you have clearly lost no animosity. And if I know Wilbur, he won't give up on this relationship until you're saying "I do," as long as someone else will fill in for him at work.

Wow. Chill out, Iris. You need to be a little more laid-back when you mooch, like your son, Tommy. He got 160 bucks off you, and the most he did was get a little angsty.
You have a lot to learn about freeloading.
I was so struck by Iris's brown pants (who pairs purple and brown? egad!) that I got in the WayBack Machine and journeyed back to the April 1 strip. Iris was wearing purple pants that day. Maybe Iris was playing an April Fool's trick on Wilbur with reversible clothing. I hope she excused herself from the table and changed in the restroom.
Anyway, the altercation between Iris and Wilbur has prompted the other patrons of Jerry's Sandwich Shop to flee. I hope the manager kicks out Wilbur tomorrow.
Iris, your eyes are looking a little beedie.
KitKat, you do realize that Wilbur being thrown out of Jerry's Sandwich Shop would just be about the cruelest blow imaginable? I could see Wilbur wandering around Santa Royale's fashionable luncheon district, lost and confused clutching a loaf of Bunny bread and a jar of dollar store mayo.
I wish Iris would review her past interactions with Tommy before she goes flying off the handle at Wilbur.
Well, at least it looks like the ants are making out well on whatever was left on Iris's plate.
Between Iris's Joyce Brothers hairdo and her hairtrigger temper, I think it's time for Wilbur to review some past interactions and consider moving on - even he must must be able to find a less volatile paramour among the Charterstone spinsters and widows...
Wham Wilbur! You've been 'Beedled!'
On the bright side, at least Wilbur didn't yell after her, "If Tommy isn't sucking your bank account dry, why am I picking up the check?"
In reality Wilbur never saw iris leave; he'd already started eyeing up the remnants of her hoagie.
This entire plot line raises a lot of questions in my mind. Most of them are reality-based, but bear with me anyway.
1. Tommy's been in prison for about seven years. Even if he was eighteen when he was sentenced, that makes him at least 25. It's ridiculous for Iris to talk about "raising" a son at this point.
2. Shouldn't Tommy be reporting to a parole officer? That person will have something to say about Tommy's job search.
3. Is there professional counseling help available in Santa Royale, or does everything devolve to phony part time advice columnists and merry Mary meddlers?
Maybe Wilbur should buy Iris this Mary Worth shirt at the Comics Curmudgeon website (which is from the great sign that Shannon created): "Sharing at Open talks may lead to feedback".
Wow, not only did Iris change her pants (my guess is that Wilbur spilled one of his many diet cokes on them and she's been through this before with him and brought a spare pair), she turned all bipolar on Wilbur. No wonder Tommy's such a loser with a fly- off-the-handle enabling mother like her. The icing on the cake would have been if she told him to go give his crackpot advise to HIS loser child that's been in college for 15 years. (And Junior College at that.)
Wilbur can't say a word about Tommy not having a job. He has foisted his job off on that old biddy, whatshername.
If Iris can teach her technique to Tommy, it may serve him well in the long run. First, agree to lunch with someone you don't like that much. Then throw yourself on their mercy, gaining the commitment of a free sympathy meal. Then, as time comes due for the check, get offended about something your lunch companion says about you. They will be so busy feeling shame for upsetting you, they won't remember they just paid for lunch, and they can easily be prodded into doing it again. This could really keep Iris in free lunches for a long time. . .
So this is what Wilbur meant by taking a leave from his job so he could concentrate on his relationship with Irate, I mean Iris.
