Mary Worth 1790

Hold on to your samwiches because this whirlwind tour of Jerry's Samwich shop may make you a little bit nauseated. It's a take on the old waitress-on-rollerskates theme, but at Jerry's, the booths are on wheels and the waitresses are stationary.

I think that collage just gave me vertigo.

One panel caught my eye (featured in Tuesday's post) because it showed Wilbur and Iris in their booth, but they each had pictures hanging on a wall behind their heads. It made me think Jerry might have designed his restaurant seating after eating some tainted pastrami.

Today's panel of the hard-charging Iris Beedie was reminiscent of the cinema poster for one of my favorite films, this.

Iris got so mad that she "oranged" her pants.

Predictions as to tomorrow's installment? I say Iris rushes home to find Tommy lounging around finishing off his 4th bowl of cereal as he makes his way through the final Star Wars DVD from the set he "bought". Iris sees this and blows another gasket.

Meanwhile, Wilbur who doesn't know when to keep his opinions to himself or cut his losses, rushes over to Iris' apartment to "discuss this". He hears all kinds of things being smashed and breaking while eavesdropping outside their door and then quietly slinks away convinced of his superiority as a parent.

He calls Mary: "ah... Mary, looks like I'm ready to take back that 'Ask Wendy' column again."

The clashing colors in this collection of strips nauseate me - purple, pink, green, brown, etc.

@Nance at 8:45 AM, I hope we don't ever see Tommy in this Hawkeye pose. (I'd much rather see Daniel Day-Lewis.)

@MerryWart at 9:29 AM, I predict that tomorrow Wilbur will encounter Mary on the Charterstone grounds. Mary will be pruning the pink roses, and she'll chirp, "Hello, Wilbur! How are things with Iris?" Let's all steel ourselves for blubbering by Wilbur.

Iris will go home and read the "Ask Wendy" column written by Mary on the subject of enabling mothers. She will suddenly see herself as she is, resolve to do better, and start demanding more from Tommy. This will spur him on to magically get a new job and become a responsible adult. I just can't wait to find out what his job will be. Hairstylist maybe?

Thank goodness for colored panels. The black and white panels in my paper led me to believe Iris was mooning Wilbur.

Ever notice how we wish for a Moy story to be over, hoping that the next one will be better? Never happens. Kind of like the Cleveland Browns.

Oh, come one, now Chin Napkin Groupie, today was *AWESOME*! I LOVED seeing Iris give my dear old Dad what he so richly deserves! I can't wait for tomorrow. A pool party, perhaps? Some serious conversation between Mary and Toby about Tommy's slackness, Iris's ire, and Wilbur's cluelessness? I'm there! My margarita awaits!
