I feel like this is a PSA that's going into Other Territory.

Like those pamphlets my mother left in my room when I was ten. Later, she asked, "Did you read those booklets I left for you? Do you have any questions?" That was her version of The Talk.

(I never did have any questions, but I have, on several occasions, informed her that she still owes me a Real Talk.)

A "second brain in our gut"?!? This has gone from just plain silly to disturbingly idiotic.

Thank you to @I Am Not a Robot at 8:44 AM; "disturbingly idiotic" says it all. And, @Nance at 8:41 AM, I think we had the same mother.

Coming soon (and the sooner the better): While waiting with her parents to board their flight to NYC, Olive grabs her gut and screeches, "I'm not getting on that plane - it's going to crash!" Panic ensues.

That's right, Olive. Do whatever your body really wants to do, and let your brain deal with it later. You are not like other people who have to consider consequences.

I foresee a very rough adolescence for Olive. Of course, her parents won't notice anything until they become grandparents.

Nice work, Mary!

I've got a bad feeling about where this is going, but I never learned from Miz Mary how to trust my feelings, so I'm disregarding what I think I perceive as an instinctive urge to never read this comic strip again.

This sequence suggests to me that Karen Moy watched the Shining, saw the creepy exchange between the boy and the Scatman Crothers character and thought that it was a very touching example of an older person sharing wisdom with a child.

@Toots McGee, the Shining reference calls up an image of Olive muttering "Redrum...Redrum..."

Can we please put the Taylors on a plane and this whole disturbing episode behind us? Pool party? Please?

I second what everyone has written. This is by far the creepiest, most wrong-headed and stupidest Mary Worth episode yet. Karen Moy must be having a nervous breakdown or is on drugs.

Very disturbing!

Sometimes my little brother (in my pants) would like to do my thinking for me but it would likely get me into a lot of trouble.

"There's a second brain in the gut ... of feelings rather than thoughts." -- thus Mary explains why she hates immigrants and doesn't believe in global warming.

If the phrase "It has been said..." were banned, Moy would have to provide the sources for half of Mary's banalities. This conversation with an 8 (?) year old child -- or is she a couple of years older by now? -- is absurd.

Loved all your comments about the "brain in the gut". ..Wonder what the medical billing code would be for a procedure to verify its health..Colonoscopy? MRI? It's a whole new (undoubtedly high priced) area of health care! Or maybe just some good, old-fashioned anti-psychotics...

I wonder what my gut brain would tell me if I fed it a plate of room temperature chicken salad appetizers?

Short of echoing everyone, let me just say "tee hee."

It's too bad that Olive had her Gut Brain removed. That was no cyst!!!

Couldn't Moy have spared us this whole drawn out Dr. Kahput business by having Olive pick up on Ian's alcoholism during her first day at Charterstone at the pool party? She could have channeled to Mary that Ian was a bad man, showing up with his booze in glass vs plastic. Mary could have jumped over the chaise, grabbed the glass as it was tumbling from Ian's hand. Olive would have been back in school by now, and we'd be done with this idiotic plot.

um... i have no snark ... except to say that Mary could have long ago quoted Dr. Gershon (Dr. Gershon said!) and moved on.
