Mary Worth 2005

Mary, as I recall, you were the one who forced Hanna to stop driving. It's only been six months, and already you've forgotten. These last six months have been an absolute joy, watching Hanna go from a frustrated 80-somthing menace, to a blissful, 60-something bride. And as I always say, "If Matchmaker Mary can't get you married, you're hopeless." Yup, I always say that about good ol' Matchmaker Mary. Seriously.

Today's Full Strip

What a strange phrase--something like "I was glad to help, even though it turned out better than I expected."
Even though? How do we interpret that? "I wanted Hanna out of Charterstone and to stop bothering me to run errands for her. I wanted her to be punished for driving when I told her she had to stop. Yet, she got a happy ending against my wishes, but I guess that's all right."

Perhaps Mary hasn't "forgotten," she's "misremembered." In that case, she should be suspended from the strip for six months without pay. Filling in at the anchor desk, er, meddling desk, will be Wilbur Weston.

Sean's and Hanna's "home" seems no more crowded than before Hanna moved in. Where did Hanna put her lifetime's worth of stuff?

@fauxprof, I also thought Mary's comments were very odd. She does seem surprised that everything ended well.

And who calls her "Matchmaker Mary?"

AND -- where has Jeff been during this long, agonizing story? He's just learning about this saga now? Maybe he's been visiting his Peace Village friends to avoid Mary's endless recaps. (Jeff is smarter than we think.)

Really, Mary?!? You know darn well that you had NOTHING to do with matching up Sean and Hanna. All you did was drive her over to Somerset to see the facility so it's pretty obnoxious to take credit for bringing them together as a couple. Well, but after all, it's all about YOU Mary, isn't it?!?

Even though the story dragged on way too long, it WAS nice to have a break from that self-centered old bat.

Coming up from the pen of Karen Moy: Wilbur learns the finer points of the culinary arts in real time.

I can't help noticing that Hanna NEVER had an eye appointment that actually diagnosed her "poor eyesight". . . As I recall, that was a snap judgment on the part of good, old "Matchmaker Mary". Or due to Mary's astute powersof observaton, she knew that Hanna was going blind. Maybe Mary really IS just as amazing as Jeff said, wisely connecting the needy Hanna with the willing and able Sean. Pay no attention to the Mary Worth behind the curtain. . .

So I guess the moral of this storyline for both mother and daughter is 'Having a man fixes everything!'Thanks for nothing, Mary!

I was going to write something like end this drivel already, but realized it would only lead to a new or rather recycled storyline. I come for the comic but I return for the comments.
