Mary's closing lines in the last panel are just so... off. I guess Olive is supposed to just kind of laugh off that offhanded reference to the night she almost drowned.
"I LOVED Santa Royale, except for that ..ahem...thing with the pool! And that thing with scary Dr. Kapuht, when my..ahem...distracted and clueless parents put me in grave danger! And the fact that I never met anyone to..ahem...spend time with other than a meddlesome biddy! Yes, I LOVED Santa Royale!"
It's pretty bad when the most interesting and believable character in this entire plot line is Bobby Binocular here on the observation deck. Bobby's expression of dismay and sadness at Mary and Olive's conversation speaks for us all.
And so it begins... The first man in Manhattan to wear a pea-green suit proudly struts his stuff at the top of the Empire State Building. By the time Mary and Olive are at street level, every other gent will be wearing one, and Brooks Brothers will struggle to keep up with the demand.
Karen Moy appears incapable of writing realistic dialogue for a child...the most age-realistic thing Olive says is "I'm the King of the World!", which only proves she's been exposed to the scene in "Titanic" where Leonardo DiCaprio utters the same words while standing on the bow of the doomed ship... Now if she could only be mauled by a grizzly a la DiCaprio in his most recent picture...

Makes me think of that Star Wars movie when the Evil Emperor knows he’s succeeded in turning Anakin Skywalker into Darth Vader. Bwahahaha!
Congratulations, your majesty. Now go home, take a shower and change clothes before your loyal subjects pass out from the B.O. Or the sheer boredom.

What's up with Mary's ManHand in the last panel? Or is that The Universal Reader trying to usher out this "Storyline"?

Wasn't that what Jimmy Cagney said in White Heat just before the propane (?) tank he's standing on explodes and blows him to kingdom come?
