This go around, Tommy is definitely keeping up with the Bible! He's already put to memory the verses that Iris gave him, to the point that he can quote them in context, which is not easy for even the staunchest evangelical. And he's shaved! He's shaved! What a transformation. What's next? A haircut?

I don't think Tommy shaved. His mother's evangelical fervor and the selected verses of scripture made his stubble spontaneously disappear. By the end of the week (okay, maybe Sunday), Tommy's hair will shrink and arrange itself into a conservative style.
Is this the first time a toilet tank has been depicted in Mary Worth? Is that an issue of Person on top of it?
Tommy, you really need to shut the door when you're in the bathroom!

I, too, immediately fixated on the toilet, which presents a much more wholesome image than either Tommy or Iris. Quoting scripture while wearing a deranged expression is not a good thing.
You know, there have been several storylines wherein I have wondered if I could have been more Bored. This one is the Ultimate, by far. Not only has it dragged on interminably with absolutely no discernible action, but with unlikable and boring characters, religion, and the original "plot" of prescription drug addiction treated as sort of an afterthought (and badly, too). It all makes me wonder if KM has begun either a more engaging Real Job or Early Retirement.
After consultations with Our Lady of Perpetual Meddling, Tommy will find his vocation. he'll be a street preacher, standing on the corners of Santa Royale's busiest intersections, haranguing strangers.
"Do ye not know that if a man talketh with an old busybody, it is as though he had talketh with the Lord Himself? And if that old busybody sayeth, Thomas, ye must taketh to the streets of Santa Royale, and save all who passeth by from the clutches of Satan, then ye must do so, or else burn in the eternal flames of Charterstone's furnace!!"
If this depiction of opiate treatment is supposed to encourage addicts to seek rehab, it's failing miserably...
Glad to see you back, Wanders. I’ve been worried about you. This storyline is very disturbing to me, too, and daily it seems to get worse - and worse-er.
