Mary Worth 2548

Mr. Hoosier's speech impediment helps him to rhyme Hoosier's with Cruishers. But speech impediments will not be a concern on the high seas! He won't have to put up with the taunts of his bowling league buddies back home in Kentucky for an entire week!

Oh, I bet today's boldface haiku will be a doosher! Plus, in panel 1, we talk about the weather. I can barely contain my excitement!

Well, knowing KM is not one for subtleties, let's see what Stereotypical Plotlines we can glean from The Hoosiers:

1. Small town rubes are awed by the panoply of cruise offerings
2. Her short hair means this cruise is a celebration of beating cancer
3. His dark complexion could cause trouble as his immigration status is questioned.

On second thought, since this is a Cruise Commercial and Mary Worth by KM, we know it's #1.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "At Least We Meet Someone New".

Weather?
Hurricane season...ok.
Hoosiers, cruisers!
Excited!

Ah, the plot thins as we meet the meddlees.

Is Hoosier their name, or does it mean they're from Indiana? And Mary, it may not be hurricane season now, but by the end (or the middle) or this story arc, it will be.

Hey, slightly off topic, but can the techies out there tell me if there's a way to see the secret message if you're working with a tablet? I have no cursor. Curses.

@fauxprof, I don't want to get too technical but my elaborate workaround in those situations where I read the commentary on a tablet is to futz around with the image a few times until I am sure that I can't read the title text on my phone and then try to remember to look at the strip again when I'm on a computer. There are a lot of things that can go wrong with this (mostly forgetting to ever look at that day's commentary again) but it mostly works.

BTW, today's commentary is hilarious.

1. Hilarious comments by Wanders and all the respondents today!

2. @fauxprof, this seems to work on an iPad: Use a stylus to press on the panel, and a small window will pop up asking if you want to open a new tab. The secret message displays at the top of the small window.

3. I'm hoping @Nance's #3 suggestion pans out, but I doubt KM would choose anything so relevant.

4. Shouldn't Toby have given some thought to the weather in her planning? What kinds of clothes did she pack?

Fashion tip #1 on a cruise: "Lipstick should always match your hair color."

What do you think the weather will be like on this tropical cruise we're taking to the tropics?

The correct response to "The Hoosiers are going to be cruisers!" is not "I'm so excited," but rather, "I want a divorce."

This is going to be awesome, two new characters having adventures on the high seas! Let's cast off and enjoy the excitement of a 2-week cruise, which will probably last 4 months!

It took me about five readings to figure out what Mr. Hoosier was talking about. At first I thought he was talking about Purdue being in the March Madness, but then I realized he was talking about him and Mrs. Hoosier going on the cruise. (I think.) If my husband said something that dumb, I would turn around and go home. I'm not sure if Mr. Hoosier is a person of color, Eastern Indian or Middle Eastern. (I'm sure we will find out and Mary will have to meddle away when someone on the ship makes a snarky comment about him or her or both of them.)

I haven't been very engaged in this plotline, although I'm happy we don't have to hear about Tommy, Wilbur or Zak No Last Name anymore.

The only thing that would make this awesome is if Mr. and Mrs. Hoosier are on the bow of the boat and recreate the Titanic "I'm King of the World" moment. (And then fall overboard.)

Are you guys sure that's a woman with Mr. Hoosier?? I thought it was an adolescent boy!

@Anonymous 1:32--You know, I wondered the same thing at first, but looked at the hands. The placement and their feminine fingers made me pretty sure that Mr. Hoosier's companion is Mrs. (or soon-to-be) Hoosier.

I hope to see Toby paint a clown picture and make ceramic figurines in the ship's art center. Excitement awaits.

Ahhhh.... good eye, Nance, good eye! I didn't even notice the hand on the chest. Now if you can only clear up for me the other two hundred thousand oddities of the Mary Worth strip, we'll be good! Thanks!

Wow! New characters! It's been over 2 1/2 years since a MW storyline has focused on new characters. That would be Hanna Dingdon and her many woes. Since then, it's been returning characters (Terry and Olive) or regular characters (Ian and Toby, Dawn, Tommy, Iris). Aren't we lucky?

Bring on the Lido Deck hijinks... "Tee hee, Mr. Hoosier!"

Are we sure these people are named Hoosier? Maybe they are just the Blands from Indiana. Anyhoo, I'm looking forward to weeks ... WEEKS! ... of Mary and Toby trying to meddle these two newbies into submission while Mr. and Mrs. Bland of Indiana grow increasingly irritated, finally blowing up in an emotional explosion reminiscent of ... yes, you guessed it! ... Agitated Aggie of Pax Wellness Resort! YES!

(I think the topics will all be really socially relevant ... like, "Please don't talk with your mouth full. It turns Toby's stomach, and she's already SPLAK-ed all over the Lido deck twice today!")

Hey! How come the Hoosiers already get a tag? That hot Zak dude never got a tag!
