Mary Worth 2566

I'm starting to suspect that neither of them have ever been on a cruise before -- excuse me, cruised before -- but they don't want to appear out of it, so they each memorized travel brochures to appear knowledgeable. It's constant pressure to continuously reinforce their previously unknown passion for cruising. Hopefully a delightful evening of tapping their toes to "Nostradamus!" will help them relax.

Hey! Anyone know if there's Anything To Do on a cruise ship? I hope they address this in "Mary Worth" at some point. That's really what they should be talking about if they're trying to inform readers about Cruising.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "ZZZZzzzzz Redux".

Cruise, enjoyed onboard entertainment!
Shows!
Formal dinner!
Fun show!

Actual cruise ship show experience: A troupe of earnest, fresh-faced and talented college theatre majors, headlined by a late-middle-aged equity actor in a severely trimmed down version of "La Cage Aux Folles". As a costume, the lead actor wore a feather boa over his tux. I never went to another show on a cruise ship. (If it is "Nostradamus", Wanders, I only hope they scored Ken Kensington and his throat polyps to star.)

ONboard entertainment? Do they also have OFFboard entertainment? Perhaps a passenger is thrown OVERboard, and the others place bets on how long the annoying old lady can tread water.

We once were entertained by a magician and his Russian girlfriend/assistant who was very flexible and could fold up into prop boxes. And then the magician would be somewhat annoyed that we weren't applauding enough in amazement that Svetlana had "disappeared". Super awkward. I don't remember any of the other shows I've seen, which tells you all you need to know. Wouldn't it be awesome if Ken Kensington really was the star of the show? Then we'd have a plot, folks.

My god. Time truly is a flat circle. Has the story begun yet? Is it over? Was the use of the word "story" an overstatement? I am sincerely baffled AND delighted.

This is almost as time-warping as the Apartment 3-G plot when Tommie nursed a deer/brindle terrier back to health all summer... or something.

Did I miss it? I wanted to see Mary at the towel folding demonstration. She was so looking forward to it that I was sure we would get to see it, too.

Mary's Helpful Hint #18: If you're BORED because there seems to be NOTHING TO DO on the cheapie cruise you're on, GO TO THE THEATER, step up on stage, and PUT ON YOUR OWN SHOW! It'll be AWESOME! Today's morning performance is called SUBURBAN ENNUI. ENJOY!

Seriously, can't Mary just start meddling in strangers' lives? There's a whole cruise ship full of them! I want a sharing circle with an Agitated Aggie or something like that. This is SO BORING!!!

Maybe June gave up on the towel-folding because it's too hard to draw a towel folded into the shape of a chipmunk...I'm holding out for the pineapple/watermelon carving.

Does the formal dinner include plates? Or do you have to bring your own?

By the way, Nance, I appreciate the boldface haiku. I knew there was some reason Karen Moy was doing all the text formatting!

That stage appears to be a little narrow; hopefully there will only be one acrobat.
