Mary Worth 2606

Especially if your friend is a Marlboro cigarette.

I really have no idea what Derek's motives are right now. I know he's struggling with his cigarette addiction and that this cruise has completely stressed him out for some unknown reason. But, seriously, how did he end up in a secluded designated smoking area with Esme? Twice? They never talk, they just look at each other and smoke. I guess the world is different for attractive people.

Good pulls ahead, but Nice hangs in there:

Good: 18
Enjoy: 17
Love: 11
Nice: 7

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "Looking At Clouds From Both Sides Now".

Glad together!
Agree! Good times, friend.

@Wanders, your last sentence almost cost me my laptop. (Coffee with cream and sugar, you know.)

I keep looking at the second panel and am wondering if Entertainer Esme and Derek have climbed over the railing to smoke. It looks as if they are on the narrow edge having a smoke. So daring with their love! (of cigarettes.)

Very well put, Wanders. I can't figure out the Derek-Esme deal either. If Katie smoked with Derek, would Esme lose her appeal to him? Of course, Katie's short hair would not blow in the wind like that...hey, why isn't all the cigarette smoke blowing in Esme's face?

Yes Mary, sharing good times with a friend beats sharing them with an enemy.

Katie, you know Derek has been smoking...he smells like tobacco!

Wow, these drastic scene shifts from crushing ennui to the tantalizing promise of some passionate bodice ripping are giving me whiplash.

So how exactly did Derek manage to get away by himself to engage in his illicit pleasures? Did he tell Katie he had to go to the store? Did he sneak out while she was sleeping? And shouldn't Entertainer Esme be entertaining somewhere?

Most entertainers on cruise ships are college kids getting experience and equity points. An older gal like Triple-E has long since seen her career hopes dashed, and the cruise ship gig is the best she can do. I remember my very first cruise (honeymoon, sigh), where the featured entertainer was Peggy Marsh--or March, I forget. She had come out with "I Will Follow Him" back when I was about 14. To her credit, she announced that she would "sing a medley of her hit" (singular). It was a pleasant show, but that's about the best you're going to get.

Tune in tomorrow when Esme shows up wearing a patch, absolutely befuddling Derek.

Toby's channeling Carol Burnett today; she should give her ear a tug as she delivers that line.

Emse should be blowing smoke rings....

Chiaroscuro augments "Triple-E" today.

It's even nicer to enjoy good times with a loved one, Mary.

Is anyone laying odds on the final good enjoy love nice tally? It's like a horse race.. the most exciting thing about this strip.
