Mary Worth 2658

Whoa! What kind of meddler is Medical Assistant Jared anyway? A real meddler doesn't ask questions! A real meddler simply inserts advice without all the facts. Amateur.

Whoa, Dawn gets defensive right away. "Go honk your horn somewhere else, Harpo!"

As Dawn prepares to make another disastrous choice, the question arises: Why do we never see a strong, self-actualized woman who knows what she wants? Oh, right, that was Esme, and she almost got drowned as an example to the rest of us.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled "Welcome To Recap Thursday, Or Jared Is Merely A Vehicle For Leftovers".

Worked late?
Had. Early.
Took dinner?
Kind gesture! Your!

Ha on Harpo @ Scottie McW!

A big thanks to Jared for the brief plot recap; it's been hard to keep up at this break-neck pace.

Before Dawn gets all chippy on Jared's questioning, perhaps she should consider that Jared might not be jealous of the attention she's getting, but of the attention he's not getting from Dr. Ned Head.

Whoo boy, Dawn took her cranky pills this morning!

@fauxprof--I hate to get all Modern and Real here when we're discussing the Mary Worth comic strip, but you're so right. KM is so backward and stuck when it comes to Real Women and Real Life and Real Relationships. It's ridiculous.

I had a friend (sadly, died from cancer) who wrote for several of the Romance publishing houses, including Harlequin. All of them had strict rules regarding plot and character development, language, etc. depending upon which line the story was for. KM wouldn't be able to pass muster for any of them with the way she portrays women and relationships. And plot...no need to go there.

Nance and fauxprof, right on!! My only consolation with KM's throwback to the 1950's women is that I doubt any young, impressionable women read Mary Worth. That said, her characterizations definitely bug the heck out of me. Maybe she hasn't read "The Secret History of Wonder Woman"...

@Scottie McW, I KNEW Jared reminded me of someone else, but I just couldn't put my finger on who. I bet Jared has a squeaky, quavering voice. It would be even better if he went full Harpo and used a horn to honk at Dawn instead of speaking.

@fauxprof, you are so right. The couple of (sort of) decisive women in MW, like Esme and Nola Wolvenson, were bad girls who got their comeuppance. Sigh...

June modeled Jared on Michael Cera, but she added a bit of extra muscle.
Medical Assistants make about $15/hour, doctors about $100

@ Nance and Fauxprof.

To Devil's advocate here. Almost no one in Mary Worth, save Mary Worth, is self actualized and knows what they want. People who know what they want don't need advice and thus are useless to the story. We've had plenty of waffle-men over the last few years.

I think Dr. Ned is probably running some diabolical experiments on human subjects somewhere in the dark recesses of Medical Group.

Medical Assistant Jared has caught wind of this and wants to warn Dawn away, but Dawn in her usual fashion can't see beyond the flashy good looks of Dr. Ned. Dawn will dismiss Medical Assistant Jared as a grubby little worm jealous of the meaningful relationship blossoming in front of him.

Will Medical Assistant Jared rescue Dawn before she is merged with a giant rutabaga? Perhaps he will have to sacrifice himself and Santa Royale's poshest Medical Group will be savaged by the resulting Medical Assistant Jared/root vegetable hybrid.

I picture Medical Assistant Jared sounding like Neil Goldman from Family Guy. (The kid who's always crushing on Meg Griffin.) However, I'm glad no one was in the office when I was laughing hysterically at Scottie McW's post.
