Mary Worth 2962

I heard the exact same thing. Only it was about Ian and Toby.

It looks like Mary is going to start mentoring Toby in the Ways of Meddling, grabbing her arm being a metaphor for taking her under her wing. I foresee a rocky internship.

Also, look at the way Mary is holding the muffin plate in panel 2. Entirely unnatural. Looks like she's getting ready to flip a coin.

Muffins lead the way!

At least today we learn that the dog has a name. "His dog is Obnoxious"

This taking place in California, 10:1 he's an old Hollywood star who couldn't make the transition to TV in the 50's.

I never thought we’d see Mary hitting on men. With muffins yet....

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

"Actually, You're Taking Him Some Muffins"

Grumpy old man obnoxious!
Oh, Toby...neighborly spirit?
Muffins!

I am so over these silly muffins.

It’s not even September and Old Man Wynter is here! All he needs is a top hat and cravat to look like W.C. Fields. (Yes, I do watch far too much of Turner Classic Movies.) And how is the dog obnoxious? Is it the obvious? Yapping incessantly? Leaving little deposits on the public walks, which Mr. Wynter doesn’t properly bag up? Digging up Mr. Allora’s flower beds? Snapping at people’s ankles? Of course, if he’s snapping at Westons or Beedies, that’s not only understandable, it’s laudable.

Everyone: read out loud what Toby said in panel one. No one speaks like that!!!! It should be "Wynter is"

@Chester the Dog: But you have to say this much for the muffins -- at least they're not salmon snacks.

Old Hollywood star? W.C. Fields? I was thinking Jimmy Olsen sixty years later. All Mr Wynter needs is a small camera hanging around his neck to complete the look. Although I always suspected J.O. was a cat person....

If Mary is to be seen as an icon of cooking and baking skills why is there no effort made to draw food that looks palatable? And why is the muffin presented as the pinnacle of baking.

Fauxprof: I too watch way too much TCM. Now I am going to hear Old Man Wynter talking in a W.C. Fields twang.

I wonder what he did to Toby? Did he make a clumsy pass at her and when she refused, he got nasty? Did Mr. Sprinkles do his business on her leg? Better still did he hump her leg? (the dog, not Mr. Wynter.)

I agree with Scottie about the weird way Mary is holding that plate o’ muffins. Mary’s muffins save the day again. Wanna bet that poor dog gets a taste of those as well? He’ll be scooting all over the place.

From the continuity department: Tuesday the bottom of Mary's tunic was solid plum colored, while today, the bottom has a panel/stripe that matches the neckline. Hmmm... Also, look at the size of that arm linked in Toby's. Popeye would be envious.

Six weeks ago:

A smartly dressed (khaki puttees, uniform jacket with epaulettes and a metal badge) messenger boy sped up to Charterstone on his Schwinn bicycle.
“Western Union telegram for Mrs. Mary Worm!” he unctuously announced. “I’m Mrs. Worm, er, Worth. Thank you, here’s a dime to buy a snack.”
Boy, under his breath:(“§&$#@*) Thanksalot, Mrs. Worm!’ “That’s WORTH, you little...! Give me back that dime!”
But it was too late. The boy pedaled furiously away, whistling “Ride of the Valkyries”, pretending not to notice Mary shaking her fist at him.
Mary glares at him a final time, then opens the thin yellow envelope.

WYNTER IS COMING stop.

To be continued...

I still say the muffins are vying for nomination in a Worthy Award category...Maybe Most Stale Performance by a Recurring Prop, er Character...

Look at the way Mary has hooked Toby's arm. Toby is going to go over their and be neighborly or Mary is going to pull her arm out of its socket!
