Reacting badly is sort of Ian's bailiwick. You have no story if he suddenly handles things maturely.

If I remember correctly, Ian was initially flattered by Jannie’s attention, and Toby was threatened by it. Go ahead and talk to Ian, Toby dear. Maybe he’ll laugh, or maybe he’ll threaten to beat up Cal. Then you can threaten to beat up Helen. Mary will stand by and hold your sweater.

This is SO stupid. Toby knows she has done nothing wrong and should have immediately reported Helen to School Management for harassing her.
