Mary Worth 1,289

I know, Mary, right? There are so few rare good things in the world. The world sucks. Especially with all of its redundant redundancy.

I'm feeling so many lots of emotions just watching Mary ooze pontification.

I surely hope that Coach Hammy McFist rekindles his annoyance with Mary.

I love love love strips that have mirror images in them. I like to play the Sesame Street game of Which of These Things Is Not LIke The Other.

Wanders, your blog is one of the "rare few good things in the world"!

@Punky. Thanks for your encouragement. I love mirror images too! But I removed it for editorial reasons. But I must admit, that panel one is really one of the better reflections we've seen. Mary's reflection is only missing one hand.

It looks like a light sabre (Luke? Darth?) is aimed at Mary's heart. She deserves it for the tiresome prattle about her "special bond" with Gina. I find her idealization of Gina and Bobby's relationship EXTREMELY creepy.

Gina swiped the objects on the dresser from Diner.

Oh Mary, you must feel bonded to half the population of Santa Royale, with all your helpful helpfulness.

I'm hoping Martha Stewart reads Mary Worth, and that she'll change her column from 'Good Things' to 'Rare Few Good Things'.

KitKat, I'm with you on Mary's idealisation of "Bobbygin".

I'd love to know the influences in Karen Moy's psyche that lead to this strip.

Can you imagine the field day that a psychologist/psychiatrist/therapist would have with Mary and her insatiable desire to fulfill herself by living vicariously through others? Even her name "Worth" is indicative of her search for identity and value as a person in the estimation of other people.

Sigh. "Micarious Worth" is more like it. And she lives in a community named Santa (Saint) Royale. The poor thing is trapped in a massive pseudo-Freudian setup.

What a Negative Nellie. The world is so wretched that Bobby & Gina's relationship is one of the few, rare good things? Really? Very depressing. And now she's going to go guzzle a few vodka gimlets and get all maudlin and teary and insist on making a messy toast to the lucky couple... You're gonna be sorry you invited her, Gina.

I'm hoping you commentators will soon come up with guesses as to what will go wrong/bad/stupid with Bobbygin's announcement. The suspense is killing me!

I think the special announcement is that Bobby and Hina are brother and sister, and Mary is going to be arrested for her role in getting them together.

I could come up with a few interesting possibilities for the announcement, some of which are not remotely family-friendly. However, the operative word is "interesting". This is,after all, the Worthiverse. It abhors interesting the way nature abhors a vacuum.

While they are house-sitting for their friend, Gina and Bobby are throwing this "special announcement" party and it's going to be one big blowout bash! You know the kind -- where the invitees invite their friends, who invite THEIR friends, and so on, until things get way out of hand. (We've seen this happen many times in various movies and TV shows.) Of course, Mary will be frustrated when she tries to intervene, but can't get the situation under control. And the mansion gets trashed...

Today's strip was particularly depressing for me. I just went to my niece's wedding over the weekend, and I think my outfit looked a lot like the one Mary Worth is wearing to this party. And I'm HALF Mary's age -- assuming that she's at least 120.

Vicki said...

@ Auntie Carlye, I'm sure you looked very nice for the wedding. I think Mary, however, has packed so light she must resort to wearing her pink housecoat to the party! Her logic, of course, "ANYTHING can be dressed up with pearls!"

Mary's adoration of Gina and Bobby Black is indeed creeeepy! I hope this whole thing turns out to be a pitch for a timeshare "opportunity" that she "must act on quickly".

My guess was that Bobby is going to announce his candidacy for the New York state senate or state assembly. But I like Vicki's guess better.

Why is Mary's right hand touching her right ear in the "real world" and someone else's left hand touching it in the mirror? Or am I confused? Or do the mirror images of thumbs move from the top to the bottom of the hand?

Charley said...

Please please please let this be Bobby's coming out party!!

Garfield without Garfield needs to do Worthless (Mary Worth with no one else BUT Mary Worth) - or the hallucinations of a senile old lady...
