Mary Worth 2935

Even Mary is so bored that she calls for her Second and suggests Tommy talk with God.

Mary must be double-jointed in her right arm, and in a cruel twist of fate, her thumb is on the wrong side of her hand. Could this explain all the back-handed platitudes? *rimshot*

Good observation, @Delilah! Mary seems to pushing Tommy to a portal, through which he might encounter:

Pastor Peter Platitude of St. Anne’s Church

Sweater-Vest Counselor (one-session “cures” a specialty)

Wilbur Weston, singing in his shower

Whoa. Tommy's such an epic loser even Mary has no platitudes for him.

Also, dare I say it, I agree with Mary here. He can't hide everything forever. Frankly, this relationship is doomed to fail - Brandy has some serious issues that aren't her fault, and Tommy's too self-centered, immature and lazy to really help her deal with them at all. He doesn't really have empathy for her and is really only worried about himself here. I think Tommy needs to be told that should she break off their relationship, that's her choice, it should be respected, and that he shouldn't become a angry stalker-creep if that happens.

How come nobody ever turns to Ask Wendy when advice is needed? I'm sure Wilbur's friends (hahahahaha) know he is the brilliant writer (hahahaha) behind Ask Wendy. I'd think a young man, who is a loser, would turn to a man, who is also a loser, for advice rather than to a meddlesome old biddy.

Mary borrowed Wilbur's shower radio. Today's quote was supposed to be "Here's a quarter, call someone who cares"- Travis Tritt , but they made the box too small.

"Tommy, I'm going to refer you to 'Ask Wendy.' "

"What's that?"

"It's an advice column. In the newspaper."

"What's that?"

[long pause] "Tommy, who's President of the United States?"

"Uh, George Bush?"

"Great googely moogely."

KitKat, I was going to suggest Dr. Sweater Vest. Perhaps Mary is going suggest Tommy go to Pax Wellness Resort and join the sharing circle. He just needs to beware of Avocado Aggie.

BTW, did we miss the "Tommy's a drunk" strips? I only remember his meth selling, Vicodin taking days. Is Tommy such a dope that he forgot those days? I knew we wish would could.

I think that KM should have used Benjamin Franklin's "when in doubt" quote, which is "When in doubt, don't".

Of course as usual, KM left out the rest of today's Mark Twain quote, which would have made today's strip even more ridiculous than it is. The full quote is: "When in doubt tell the truth. It will confound your enemies and astound your friends."

Thanks, Regina! The full quote opens up so many much more richer interpretations of the strip.

As it stands, Tommy, buddy, when even Mary Worth is giving you the brushoff, maybe it's time to go back to the drugs and alcohol. Honestly, between your dead end grocery clerk job, your inability to understand what you're doing and with/to whom, your sobriety is almost literally the last thing you have to lose.

You may not ever get anywhere in life but at least you won't know you aren't there.
