Mary Worth 3207

As the narrative has stalled for the day, I thought this might be a good time to report on my vacation. In photos. Because, let's face it, you don't want to read about my vacation.

We drove this 1997 Subaru Impreza from New Jersey to Utah to pass it down to our son in college.

The handoff was successful at BYU.

At the top of Sundance Resort, my brother Duane threw me to my death singing, "He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother." I waved at Robert Redford on the way down.
We took Greyhound to Las Vegas, where Mrs. Wanders went for a ride on her dad's Harley.
Then we took another Greyhound to Disneyland where I was more gleeful than anyone else as these photos will attest.

My feelings were decidedly mixed about the new Star Wars land, Galaxy's Edge.
We flew to Sacramento, where we went for a 40-mile ride in my Dad's 1932 Dodge.
We visited the gas station museum in Woodland, California.
Outside the gas station musesum.

So that was my vacation. Now, what was Estelle saying?

How was my date with Wilbur? Well, he rooked me out of a Netflix rental, because, you know, I am still on the DVD plan.

Today's Boldface Haiku is titled

"A Perfect Summary For Everyone".

Wilbur returned?
Yes. Last night.
Going?
Not.

@Wanders--Fun trip! You really made the most of your time.

Wow, Wanders, I want to go on that vacation! One thing I’ve got to know, though: Does the Big Boy statue at the Gas Station museum mean that there’s an actual Big Boy restaurant there, or is it just a cruel joke? The last Big Boy in my area closed several years ago, and I miss that place. It was a favorite breakfast-after-church place for realprof and me.

Oh, yeah, Mary Worth. Well, Estelle has a double dilemma. How do you break up with someone you’re not actually going out with, and how do you ghost someone you see in the hall every day? Actually, since she never noticed him before, maybe that last part isn’t going to be a problem.

Later, Mary bumps into Wilbur in the hall.

"Hi, Wilbur, how are things going with you and Estelle?"

"Great. Just great. She really likes me. And she likes boxing too. I'm think I'm just the man for her."

-- Scottie McW.

P.S. Wanders, I'm afraid I was being selfish yesterday in urging you to keep this up. If this has become a burdensome grind rather than a labor of love, then by all means you should take an indefinite break -- be it weeks, months, or years. And don't come back until -- and unless -- you really want to. Do what's best for you, not us.

P.P.S. Enjoyed the pix.

Wanders - Thanks for sharing those great photos. I hope you're now re-energized and happy to be back on the thrilling ride that is Mary Worth. Seeing that Phillies cap, I must tell you that I am the founder and president of the Ruben Amaro (Senior AND Junior) Fan Club.

So, if Wanders retires, does that mean that my dream (er, nightmare) of Mary Worth and MEG can come true? Be still, my heart and stomach....

JK, Wanders! Liked your National Lampoon style vacation.

What a fun and varied trip, Wanders, and what a variety of autos! You and Mrs. Wanders are such an engaging couple, with an admirable spirit of adventure. You're the polar opposite of Wilbur and Estelle. I realize those two set a low bar, so please don't be insulted! BTW, Scottie McW.'s postscript today prompted some soul searching by me. I agree with Scottie. You have done so much Worthiverse heavy lifting while the rest of us reap the rewards. Believe me, I thank you so much, and I treasure the blog and all my Worthiverse friends (and all of you really are my friends - besides the snark, we support each other).

Instead of asking Estelle, Mary should talk to Winky, urgh Libby, who won't mince words/meows.

Looks like you and Mrs. Wanders had a blast, very unlike what we were doing here between Dawn boo hoo hooing on the couch and Wilbur tormenting people in Mozambique. Glad you had a great time! P.S. Love your dad's car!

Wanders, seeing your sense of fun and adventure, I'm sure you don't give Mrs. Wanders awkward hugs when you walk in the door, make her watch a boxing documentary and drink wine coolers in your slippers. (Someone asked yesterday if they still make wine coolers. I wondered the same thing. That's so 1990s.)

Estelle, if you're not sure, let me give you a piece of advice, which will be better than Mary's. If you have to choose Wilbur or being alone, I would choose being alone. Be like Dawn. Be a professional student at SRCC, adopt some more cats, learn line dancing, or get a part time job to occupy your time. Anything would be better than being with Wilbur. He's so repugnant and has no idea how to treat a woman.

Of course Mary will give the opposite advice and tell her to "settle" and stick with repulsive Wilbur.

Wow! I see M "Wanders" is truly living up to your name. What fun in the West! Maybe if you'd stopped by Santa Royale and picked up Estelle for a trip to Disneyland, she wouldn't have had to host Wilbur the Dense for an evening of watching "Counterpunch" (Yawn, yes there actually IS a documentary on boxing on Netflix.) Then she has to endure her nosy neighbor Mary Worth, who has stopped by for gossip and to coat her skirt in cat hair from Libby/Winky so as to prevent a visit from Dr. Jeff.

That $10K Estelle dropped while dating the fraud must seem like a bargain now that she waited for months for Wilbur to return only to have him get drunk and watch TV at her place.

Contest: what's Wilbur's idea for a great second date?

My guess is going out to Diner to eat sandwiches.

Nice pictures Wanders - looks like fun.

From one of the less frequent commenters: you and your beloved have the coolest dads on the planet. As for your future with Mary Worth and Me, I agree that you should do what feels right. Maybe the moderator or administrator or whatever the correct term is could rotate on a weekly basis. There are everyday commenters here (as opposed to everyday readers who are not nearly as witty, like me) well qualified to share the load with you, if you'd want that. Follow your heart. No doubt you will find greater success in doing so than poor hapless Estelle.

Wanders--the answer is so obvious. It's staring us right in the face. Take some time off, and ask Mary to write the blog for you! As long as she isn't too busy meddling and ghostwriting "Ask Wendy," I'm sure she would be glad to drag out her weird, clunky laptop and type up some platitudes about the day's strip. She would probably also be happy to meddle in the lives of everyone here. Then you can take a much needed break.

Speaking of "Ask Wendy," does Estelle know that Wilbur writes that column (occasionally)? She certainly would not assume he would be one to give relationship advice. I would love for Estelle to write to Wendy to ask whether there's any point in staying with a loser who took off for months (I think?) to Mozambique and didn't keep in touch, then showed up like he was God's gift with wine coolers and slippers to watch a boxing documentary for their "date." That would be a slap in the face for ol' Wilbur, we would would all be glad about since none of us can give him the actual slap we all want to give him.

In happier news, Wanders, thank you for sharing your photos! What a great trip. You guys know how to have fun. And my friends who live in Woodland never told me there was a gas station museum. That will definitely be on the itinerary the next time we go. We all really appreciate you, but this should be fun for you, not a Wilbur-level burden.

Nance, perfect BFH today. Perfect.

r u ok?: Go out for sandwiches? You have to put on real shoes for that. No, I think Jerry's delivers, and that way they can drink Natural Ice beer, eat sandwiches, and watch that documentary on competitive darts Wilbur's been dying to see. He would have watched it sooner, but he's too cheap to have his own Netflix account.

Wanders, you and Mrs. Wanders are some cool parents, indeed. Thanks for sharing the photos.

I wouldn’t blame you one bit if you decided you needed a take a breather, but I won’t lie — it took you and all the commentators to help me get through Dawn’s Wild Wet French Summer, which I like to think we survived together, like war buddies. Take some R&R, get off the front lines, we understand.
