Mary Worth 3348

Again, seeking clarity from an elevated vantage point. True fact, one of the boulders in Central Park is named "Worthless Boulder."

As a New Yorker, I never knew that you could go rock climbing in Central Park. The things you learn from KM.

Hugo has a lot of down time from his job. All he's been doing is sight seeing. I guess once he finishes selling his papers on the corner, he can do whatever he want with his day.

Is this vapid story finally over or are they going to visit the bull statue on Wall St. tomorrow?

Today's (Thoroughly Bored) Boldfaced Haiku is titled

"Two ChatBots Pillowtalk On iMessage".

Future.
Yes.
Tomorrow?
Takes away.

Let's hope tomorrow takes away Dawn and Hugo and Jared and brings us a new story arc. I think it’s getting to be time for the quarterly plotline change, and I look forward to the first virtual Charterstone pool party via Zoom.

And may I voice once again my complaint that every storyline in MW for just over two years now has been about the Wilbur/Dawn/Iris/Estelle nexus. Dr Jeff and the Camerons are still floating about vaguely in the background but they never get much strip time any more, and the days of stories about one-off or non-regular characters seem to be long gone. The only variety we get now is switching from Dawn’s love life to Wilbur’s and then back to Dawn’s, with maybe a bit of Wilbur’s ex to be really adventurous. Karen Moy seems determined to make MW into a strip about stupid Wilbur and the various stupid women connected with him, and I for one think this is an awful idea. If we're back to Wilbur and Estelle next month, I'm cancelling my subscription.

You said it, Nance. I’m sick of these vapid bozos. Lets wrap up things this way: Dawn and Hugo go to a pastry shop that turns out to be managed by none other than John Dill. Over slices of pink cake, the tiresome twosome tries to break up with each other and gets into a spat over who broke up first: “You can’t break up with me, I already broke up with you!” Then Hugo says the pink cake in Paris is so much better than the stuff he was served here, and an indignant John Dill has the cafe bouncer toss Hugo out. Now that would be entertaining.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought both Dawn and Hugo said they had been to NYC before (but not so interested that I went back to read the panels when they were talking about meeting). But if they had been there before why would they do all the first-time tourist things? So I expect the only clarity Dawn will discover is that NYC is cool! And she will still be torn between Hugo and Jared when she returns to Charterstone where will go full circle/Groundhog Day when Mary asks Dawn if she made a choice.

It sounds like they are spies meeting for the first time and finally giving their code phrases.

I have some sympathy for Worthless Rock as I grew up on Littleworth Road. The rock depicted here, however, could shrug off all charges of worthlessness if its slippery surface caused these two twits to tumble into that tarn.

Okay, Dawn, Hugo just dropped a little clarity on you if you read between the lines. Let's just say, He doesn't seem to be too interested in the idea of you being Mme. Lamebare.

Yeah, @Scottie. I started wondering about that yesterday. Didn't Dawn tell Mary that Hugo would move to the US in a couple of years? Yesterday, on the bridge, Dawn asked about him moving to the US and he said he didn't know (or some French phrase I'm too lazy to look up). I think we are going to be jilted out of a break-up. These two will shake hands and separate....pfffft.

I like the "or takes away"! It sounds sort of ominous. Is it that Hugo is planning a big breakup, or will he shove Dawn off the boulder? Either would be the most excitement we've seen since Esme fell off the cruise ship.

One little push...one little shove...please Hugo...

Where's Shovey McShoveson when you need him?

Downpuppy said...

Who needs Shovey? At the angle Hugo is tilted, plus Dawn pulling on him, he should be headed down the rock face first in under 2 seconds.

Seriously, Hugo is balanced like Fred Astaire up there. Bracing myself for what's next. Maybe Moy will have them making out at the 9-11 memorial.

Speaking of spy lingo... I found Hugo’s use of “cross that bridge when I come to it” yesterday a little unlikely. That’s a fairly common idiom in the US (thanks, Longfellow), but is it one Hugo would know? He’s either a devious spy or a dastardly Lawn Guylander!
