Mary Worth 4233

Dear friends, this is purely coincidental and has nothing to do with Steven leaving, but after blogging about Mary Worth for over 15 years, I need to take a little break. I'm not sure when, or if, I'll return. Everything is fine personally. Things are so great, in fact, that suddenly Mary Worth has little meaning for me anymore. I know, it's hard to believe. So I'm taking a break. I don't know if it will be like Estelle's first few breaks with Wilbur and I will come back at the slightest whiff of Woody's BBQ, or if it will be more like her current break with Wilbur which still has so many unaswered questions. Maybe after a week or two, I'll feel like I can't live without Mary Worth, and I'll return. That wouldn't surpise me. Perhaps all I need is a vacation. But if I don't return, I just want to thank each of you for how much fun you've made this place. I've read every comment you've ever written, and I've laughed and grinned at, well, most of them.

I feel like I'm saying goodbye to friends, and I just want to let you know, in all sincerity how grateful I am for your support during all this time.

I'm on board with this, one hundred percent. Not only do I have the complete 26-volume set of all the Peanuts strips on my bookshelf, but over the years I've worn a few Snoopy shirts myself.

I decided a long time ago that if a T-shirt is worth buying, it should have the Peanuts on it. It probably has something to do with a story I've shared before about my freaky relationship with all things Peanuts.

I don't know if I mentioned this, but Mrs. Wanders and I had our first grandbaby last month. She's coming by this afternoon for some turkey.

Perhaps now is a good time to show some photos from the camping trip that Mrs. Wanders and I took in the Adirondack Mountains a few weeks ago. It was even more gorgeous than June's drawing.

This was taken at Death Brook Falls. We wondered why they call it Death Brook, and then, Mrs. Wanders, as she was walking across some slippery rocks beneath the falls... realized that her phone was no longer in her pocket. We soon found her new iPhone 13 Pro, gurgling at the bottom of the brook. But, the good news is that the phone did not die! Take that Death Brook!

Here are some more photos for your enjoyment:

Do kids really think "OMG"? I know it stands for "Oh, my God," but does Dawn? When I was a kid, if I ever said, "Oh, my God" out loud, my mother would patiently and kindly tell me that I had hurt her feelings. Her gentleness was very effective. She would sometimes remind me that saying "Oh my God" was using the Lord's name in vain, and because she loved God ("He is my friend"), she wanted to keep his commandments and wanted her children to do so too. Never wanting to intentionally hurt my mother, I really worked at not using the Lord's name in vain even though all my friends did. So the repeated use of "OMG" in yesterday's and today's strips actually makes me a little bit sad, thinking of how it would disappoint my mother. Of course, I don't know if it would offend Wilbur. Or anyone else on the planet. But then you don't know my Mom who is still the kindest woman on earth.

I woke up this morning super excited to see how Jared's phone call to Jess was going to go, but I guess I have to wait another day while we commemorate the Declaration of Independence of the United States in 1776. It's okay, I needed a break anyway.

Everyone have a safe and happy Independence Day, at least those who live in the United States, celebrating our never-ending pursuit of liberty for all people.

This has to be a very meta experience for June Brigman. To have Toby evaluating her work must be both gratifying and stressful at the same time. However, I'm quite sure that one thing June has never said is, "I have a keen eye." I'm pretty sure she is more likely to say, "My eye is savvy."

Awww, Brenda drew her teacher. What a great student. Unless the assignment was to draw someone who inspires you. Then she's just a kiss up.

I'm actually looking forward to these classroom scenes. Since they are probably inspired by June Brigman's real life experience as a college level art instructor, they should be full of nuanced story telling. Of course, the students are based on real people, so it could be humiliating for her real life students, which I am also looking forward to.

What's going on!?

8:05 AM Eastern: I have been unable to access the Comics Kingdom site for two days. This is a tragedy. How will I ever know what is going on?? You miss two days of Mary Worth and you will never catch up!

3:07 PM Eastern: Well, I've hacked into the SeattlePI.com site - what does PI stand for? And here is the money panel for you:

I weep for women and dogs everywhere.

Our 16-year-old cat, Storm, started howling a couple of years ago after her brother Sundance died. It's a mournful refrain, and the very last yelp sounds just like a baby crying. It usually means, stop ignoring me, or lift me up onto the bed, or carry me out to my dinner. We sing a lot in the house, but Storm never joins in singing with us. She isn't a dog, for Pete's sake.

Mrs. Wanders and I went to Longwood Gardens in Pennsylvania yesterday. It had the variety we needed.

That's it! Give me more of that! Click! Click! Click!

It seems like Karen Moy is having trouble coming up with a new story to tell (and June Brigman is having trouble coming up with new art). I hope it will be worth the wait. But as long as I keep reading scintillating dialogue like this, I'm fine.

Also, guess what the Wanders family had for Easter dinner? Salmon, of course!
