Mary Worth 3356

I was glad to see this panel recycled since I wasn't able to post on the day it was first used. Back in the 1990s, when I was a young bohemian interning at the Manhattan Theatre Club, I lived on 15th Street right across from Stuyvesant Square Park in a third floor walk up that I was subletting from a friend for next-to-nothing a month. It was a beautiful time, and while Stuyvesant Road appears to be a short little avenue in the East Village, it wasn't far away, and I'm just happy to think that I've walked the same streets that Dawn and Hugo are now exploring. If they follow in my figurative footsteps, they'll never see each other again.

You're right about about Joe Soup, Wanders.

"We must not concern ourselves with our future. We must just sit around and see what happens." -- Joseph Campbell

When I saw the quote I thought it was wrong so I checked - here is right quote which has a different meaning - to me anyway:

"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us, The old skin has to be shed before the new one can come"

Anonymous, thanks for the fact checking on the Campbell quote. It’s surprising that KM didn’t toss in something about “finding clarity.” Who knows, perhaps Dawn’s flexible sleeves was her attempt to shed her clothing instead of her skin.

Alas, when Dawn asked Hugo, “Who IS she?” Hugo didn’t reply, “HIS name is Charles.” Also, is anyone else tired of the term “having feelings for”? There could be negative feelings, like revulsion (the Westons inspire that in me, especially Wilbur and his combover, his eating habits, his scotch drinking, etc.). Why can’t Dawn and Hugo say,, “I love someone else”? Harrumph!

Dear King and/or Queen of the Comics Kingdom:

Please, I beseech you, have Dawn and Jared travel to Paris together.

Jared:
Wow, that tower sure IS an eyeful.
Brasserie? Maybe I can buy a lacy French one for Ma.
Notre Dame? I didn’t know they played football in Paris!
Jerry Lewis film festival marathon? Oh, boy, that’s what I want to see!

Hugo: JARED! Mon Homme!

I just don't get this. If Dawn is so hot for Jared, why did she spend an expensive sightseeing week in New York with Hugo? And why will she go to Paris to visit Hugo? This clarity is as clear as mud ... er, mayonnaise.

It seems to me there should be some criminal charge leveled for misuse of a quotation. KM never fails to be heavy handed as if the plot for MW is as serious as a heart attack. Who ever imagined Dawn and Hugo had ANY future planned?! Dawn is not known for looking ahead at much of anything, dilettante that she is.Of course, if jetting off to Paris with Jared this summer gets her off this strip for awhile, I'm for it.

Why does Hugo keep calling Jared "your person"? Who even talks like this? If he saw a picture of Jared, he would amend it to "Your whatever it is."

I did work at Manhattan Theater Club back in the 90's as a writer and director. Perhaps we had met, Wanders? A day of theater there was never complete without a trip to BBQ"s for a cheap margarita!
