Mary Worth 3414

"Madi's grandmother passed away a few months ago."

"I'm sorry to hear that."

"I saw her every day. I miss her."

"DO YOU LIKE TO SWIM?? We have a great pool. I can show it to you later this week! Being in the water's enjoyable even for non-swimmers!"

Thank you, Mary, for changing the subject so politely. All that talk about death was making me uncomfortable.

Aaaannnnd still looking at her phone.

BTW, in yesterday's panel, look how close they all are too each other. It's as if they're all eating off the same TV tray.

Wanders, you missed a sentence:

Saul: "Madi's grandmother passed away a few months ago."

Mary: "I'm sorry to hear that."

Madi: "I saw her every day. I miss her."

Saul: "Yes, she slipped in the bathtub and drowned."

Mary: "Oh, that reminds me. Charterstone has a great pool. Do you like to swim?"

Another day of incisive and hilarious comments from Wanders everyone! If nothing else, this plot is inspiring us all.

Looks like we’ve had a narrow escape from seeing Saul in a Speedo, unless Mary’s power of persuasion (or threats) overcome his reservations. I also wonder why he appears to have forgotten the name of his wonderful cousin he was so close to. “Gee Madi, I’m sorry what’s-her-name, your grandmother, died.”

Tomorrow: Mary tells Madi all about the time she rescued Olive from drowning in the Charterstone pool, in the most excruciating detail possible. Then she’ll serve dessert: Salmon Seven-Layer Snickerdoodles.

Depending on what order you read the dialogue in panel 2 (Mary first, then Saul) vice versa, it either means Mary has already ruled Madi a "non-swimmer" or she is trying to encourage Saul that "being in the water's enjoyable". Actually, either way, she's making a judgment that SOMEONE in the room is a non-swimmer. Maybe her...I still want to see Mary dive in in a bathing suit instead of her nightgown. I'm also betting that Madi showed up without a bathing suit, so that will give Mary and (probably) Toby a shopping field trip to take. Maybe they can include Dawn and Iris and make it a real girls' welcome for Madi! I would love to see June's illustrations of a department store, because you know none of these gals do online shopping.

Mary: "Dear, you've only taken one bite out of your salmon squares sandwich."

Madi: "Is that what it is? EWWWWWW."

Mary mentioning that being in the water is enjoyable even for non-swimmers is an odd comment. Even odder is Myster Wynter saying he's not much of a swimmer and he'll take a pass. We can all be grateful after seeing Wilbur gallivanting around in a Speedo.

FRIDAY (a memorable installment - I hope the rest of you comment too!)

Panel 1: June wants to know Which of these characters you would add to Mt. Rushmore:
A. Madi and her colorful hair
B. Saul Wynter and his bulbous nose
C. Mary Worth, cook/baker to the grief stricken

Mary, you'll dislocate your elbow if you don't stop patting yourself on the back.

An assortment of cookies? How on earth does Mary have time to be the world's biggest busybody, volunteer at the hospital, bake endless rounds of muffins, drown her flowers until they look rusty, and still bake an "assortment", no less? I am a fairly good baker, but I can tell you that two batches of different cookies in a day is all I can manage.

Mary, fess up and admit that you went to the bakery for those cookies. Otherwise you could be embarrassed when Saul and Madi spot them at the Food Team bakery.

"Simple but well-prepared food is such a comfort. And wasn't this soup and sandwich well prepared? I spent all day yesterday making the soup from scratch. While that was simmering I baked the bread. This morning I squeezed a dozen lemons for this well-prepared lemonade. Wasn't this simple lunch a comfort?"

"Yes, it was, Mary. Very well-prepared.

"Mmmmppppff"

So now Mary will tenderly replace Gram in Madi’s life, Saul and his dog will get back to their fabulous routine, and once again Moy will have snatched the football away from us. Now, back to the Theater of Disappointing Plots. Oh, good, the Westons will be here soon.

So funny, everyone! KitKat, such a timely comment! Love the "Theater of Disappointing Plots".. and all we can hope is that Madi is missing her grandmother and not the measurement...
