Toby’s going to balance a tiny pie-filled plate and a cup and saucer on her crossed legs AND actually eat and drink while confessing to Mary? I think Mary gets her passive-aggressive kicks putting people into sticky situations and watching them fumble.
I predict that (1) a floating head of Cal will appear soon, and (2) Mary will ask, “What did Ian say?” to which Toby mumbles “I haven’t told him.”
I love the skeptical, hesitant side-eye Mary is giving Toby, a la Elaine Benes. "Okay, I'll bite," she thinks. "What is it now? Martians? Implanted microchips?"
Meanwhile, the chameleon liquid that Mary poured has eaten the teabag.
And of course, once again we have the impossibly small plates and mini-napkin. And the three-tined fork.
This is like one of those "How many errors can you spot in this picture?" games.
What is going on? Mary is looking nearly as haggard and world-weary as Helen Moss, and passed up her homemade (if repulsive) muffins in favor of a past-date strawberry pie from Food Team. I think those are the eyes of someone who’s been reading her own strip and has heard the phrase “School Management” entirely too many times.
I hope Mary encourages Toby to take Cal up on his generous offer. Firstly, Toby isn't getting any younger. How many more chances like this does she think she'll get? Secondly, if Mary can worm all the juicy details out of Toby, she'll be able to return that copy of "Outlander" to the library. It was due back about two years ago.
Mary: "Toby, please desist in your slander of my bridge partner of 27 years and former Brown College roommate, Mrs. Helen Moss. You're obviously guilty, you ignorant slattern."
Mary: yes I know Helen Moss, a member of the AMA. Toby: Helen is a doctor? Mary: No, silly. The American Meddlers Association! I coached her personally. Meddlers look for trusting dim witted victims. Estelle is my target, and you are obviously Helen's

Weirdly, JB appears to have drawn Mary so that she looks like a ventriloquist dummy being operated by Toby. She also seems to have shrunk.
Mary's face indicates that she knows this is going to be stupid.
She's probably thinking that Toby got caught drinking on the job.
What is Toby wearing? At first I thought it was some kind of sling device because she hurt her arm/shoulder falling out of bed.
