Mary Worth 4219

Please don't spill your hot cat coffee on your lap, Estelle! You might drop your phone in it.

Dr. Ed Blofeld chuckles as he strokes Odin’s sleek head, plotting his revenge on the Santa Royale Vet Association, and on the unkind reviewer from Yelp. “Mwah ha ha ha ha! They’ll rue the day they insulted Bernice Blofeld’s little boy! I’ll get you, and your little cocker spaniel, too! And round about midnight, I’m gonna prank call that Weston creep. “

“I’d like very much to see you again, Stell. Can you text me a photo so I remember what you look like?”

Ugh, I foresee a future play date for Odin, Libby, and Pierre. They are the creepiest animals I can imagine.

Sad announcement: Joe Geilla, legendary Mary Worth (and Batman) artist has passed away: https://13thdimension.com/joe-giella-dies-at-94/

This storyline would make more sense if Dr Ed worked at an emergency animal hospital instead of a clinic. Then you could understand long hours and stress related work but he appears to be a veterinarian who has regular office hours.

Thank you for sharing this news about Joe Giella, May he rest in peace.

Thanks for the link, Anonymous at 7:28 a.m. No one could a draw a six-fingered hand better than our Uncle Joe. From that link I learned that the colorist for Mary Worth is none other than Joe's son Frank! That could explain a lot about the color choices we see.

Anonymous at 7:28 a.m., thanks for sharing the news about the passing of Mr. Giella. What a well-lived life! The Daily Cartoonist’s article includes the MW strip with Mary diving into the Charterstone pool in her nightgown, which is a classic:

Rest in peace, Mr. Giella.

I'm just sayin', I know that some forms of colour vision abnormality are hereditary…

Thank you for the link, KitKat. We should all take a moment to remember Uncle Joe. No one could draw my jaunty green blazer quite like he could.

Another cause for reminiscence was the MW panel at the end of that page, where Toby has apparently just physically abused me and snarls "my anger should have been directed toward a certain FRENCH WITCH!" Karen certainly couldn't come up with a storyline like that. Sadly, Toby must have slapped me so hard I can't remember the circumstances, or the French Witch's name or cell number.

Notice how she helpfully specifies ANIMAL patients just in case we've forgotten that he's a vet and doesn't treat humans or trees.

Dr. Cameron, you made me look. I'd love to know more about that FRENCH WITCH too, but I suspect from the looks of that strip, you were probably calling her from a wooden box on the wall, summoning the operator with the attached crank.

p.s. Is that where the term "crank call" comes from?

That's so sad about Joe Geilla. He was very talented, especially evident in his earlier work. I often had the feeling he was in on the joke when drawing Mary Worth. R.I.P.
