Mary Worth 1,122

Apparently, CHH Coffee serves its rotgut from a vending machine.

Look, I'm not going to criticize the serendipity of today's plot development, no matter how dipity it may seem. It turns out that several years ago, I got in contact with a very dear college friend whom I hadn't seen in almost twenty years, and it just so happened that a musical her husband had co-written and was starring in was opening on Broadway in just a few weeks. My wife and I were able to see it during the opening week and then go out to dinner with Janet and Bob after. So, yeah, it could happen.

One of the perceptive wits who comments on this blog, pointed out this very scenerio last week. Now that the "New York Blazes" are playing the "Santa Royale Shootout", we can end this farce of a storyline. Maybe Bobby will see Gina's face and ponytail in the stands and be so shocked he scores an "own goal". Anyway, we should be out of this "plot" and into the next by, say, Thanksgiving...

That sign does tantalize the patrons with that wonderful picture of a Ham/Cheese sandwich!

I hope Bobby the eligible soccer star doesn't already have a girl in every city on the National Major League North American Continental Soccer Association tour. That would be crushing.

We know Gina is in a transcendent state. Note the double face touch, full "I can't hear you" position. She is above this all.

And I just noticed: that stellar soccer magazine is called "kickin' git!" What joy!

I had no idea that Santa Royale was a big enough city to field a professional sports team, so I have new respect for this thriving metropolis. No wonder it features inviting establishments like the one Gina's in now!

Let's hope that the place Gina can't be kept away from is the visiting team's locker room - now THAT could be fun.

@toots - heck, that would be exciting! Gina could be one of his harem.

Gina's eyes are starting to look a little cray-cray...I think this plot is just too much for her. Moy, tone it down, wontcha?!

bam!

and then Gina's head exploded.

the end.

New story to begin Wednesday.

Wanders, I just reread your post of today. I LOVED "The Drowsy Chaperone"! When the performance ended, I would have gladly sat through another performance immediately. Wow, I am so impressed!

Argh, I hope the Santa Royale Players never, ever mount a production of it.

Thank god I didn't miss them! I am self-conscious about my weirdly shaped ears!

So does Gina go to the game alone, or bring along all her new 'friends' (Mary, Toby, Wilbur, the professor, etc.)? Won't Bobby be impressed with either option!

Surly Captain said...

Uh Oh! I hope Gina's other "14 year old crush" doesn't show up at the soccer game.

"Who's that? singing the national anthem...
....Corey Feldman!!!"

then Gina would have to choose.

@Dave in Parma,

Perhaps Gina will invite the leering Diner patron who gave her his phone number. This could be Ponytail's attempt to make Bobby jealous.

Brick said...

In TWO DAYS ! I sure hope Gina isn't scheduled to work at the diner! and I hope she can get tickets to the game! and I really hope the next two days go by more quickly than the last two did!!

Before Gina heads off to the ARENA, she will have to fret over a new outfit, apply makeup in the mirror, consult with Mary, and foolishly quit her job.

Wow. My ex husband was a crew head for the B-way production of Drowsy Chaperone. What a small world...."Bobby, is that you, Bobby...?"

Bobby will have absolutely no recognition of Gina. Gina will go buy a gun and say something like, "if I can't have him nobody will!" Then, Bobby will need to change his name, go into witness protection, and move to some place far away from Gina, maybe Viet Nam. Mary will begin trolling the diner for her next victim.

Is that Popeye's son all grown up at the vending machine? That's a pretty massive forearm.

I just want--no, need--to say that I've been out of touch for at least a month and was worried that I had missed something. Silly of me. Ponytail girl still looking for childhood "love," who is now a star in National Major League North American Continental Soccer Association (thanks, Toots). Better step it up, Moy. I'm drifting away...

How serendipitous! I remember someone called it, that the Blazes would be coming to Santa Royale.

Meanwhile, I was ignoring the "storyline" and focusing more on the poster in the background, the one with the sandwich on it.

Anyway, back to the storyline, shall we take a guess as to what will happen:

* Gina will attend the game, but lose the bottle to approach Bobby Black.

* Gina will go to the game and approach Bobby, but he won't remember her one bit! (Although that ponytail would be a definite reminder.)

* Gina will *gasp* have to work a shift the same time as the game.

Limber Joe said...

@ James in NoDak: I WILL work, "lose the bottle" into general conversation this week! Thank you. Almost as good as, "Bob's your uncle!", but I've worn that a little thin recently.

@ Wanders: Popeye, indeed!

@ Toots McGee: I was distracted from the revolving background by thoughts of delicious ham and cheese sandwiches. Spicey brown mustard, large dill pickle. Some kettle chips, perhaps. Sluice it all down with a frosty glass of Vernor's.

It goes down like this: Gina gets hit in the head and knocked out by a wild goal attempt by Bobby. He rushes into the stands and cradles her broken body. She gains consciousness long enough to say, "Goodbye, again, Bobby" and does that secret goal post salute thing with her arms. And croaks

-OR-

Gina goes down to the field where Bobby is signing autographs after the game. He recognizes her and calls her name. The mob henchman that has been tailing Bobby for 10 years, hoping that Bobby will lead him to the last survivor of the snitch's family, opens fire and the machine gun blazes, thus finishing the job.

Either one is ok, Rob says, as long as Gina dies.

gina will get on the scoreboard doing the wave . bobby will send the trainer to find her and have her meet back at the hotel.then a blond knocks at the door ......ut oh bobby.remember the twilight zone where the bridge was out and there was only 7 people on the bus but 8 came in. thats the last time i saw ham and cheese advertised that way . go santa royale turkeys!!!

@KitKat: I think Santa Royale has a baseball team also; wasn't Drew Corey talking about "The Amigos" awhile back?

Maybe Gina will sit with her friends, classmates, etc. and cheer for the visiting team. That should draw some looks.

Peggy Olson said...

Thanks, Kathyo. I was trying to think of the sports team mentioned way back when Drew was trying to ditch LiZa.

Oh, I hope LiZa, the born saleswoman, is selling hot dogs to the cheering fans. Go, Amigos! Beat the Blazes!

Wanders said...

Liza bought tickets to an Hombres game, presumably baseball.

Toots McGee said...

I can't see or hear the word serendipity without adding "doo" as is "serendipity doo"

KitKat said...

Well, I had forgotten the Amigos and Hombres. Maybe the Santa Royale soccer team is the Gringos.
