Mary Worth 3802

Because "Lord" is his middle name.

That cat and dog are the most unattractive and unrealistic pair of animals imaginable, especially Libby. Add cats and dogs to the things KM has no actual knowledge of. The verdict is still out on June. Maybe horses are the only animals she’s simpatico with. (Does she hate cats?)

I wonder if the absence of Jeff has anything to do with Mary’s giddy mood.

My wish for the New Year is that Wilbur and Estelle find happiness and disappear forever from the Worthverse. I wish for Toby to find a friend other than Mary. I wish for Jeff to find a woman who gives him what he wants and I wish for Mary to question her worth.

You beat me to it, Wanders. I, too, always thought that "Lord" was Mr. Tennyson's title, not his middle name. Apparently KM knows better. Who are we to question her?

KitKat - I don't know how I know this (I couldn't make myself sit through the interview that Wanders posted on MW&M) but I read somewhere that June has 10 cats. Apparently, she's never taken a good look at any of them.

HelenClark, I’m now picturing ten cats that look like Libby in June’s household. NOOOOO!!!!!

Alf's title makes more sense if you add a comma: Alfred, Lord Tennyson. But nobody does that.

I find this strip to be quite threatening and very unsettling. We see Mary's huge hand behind the heads of these unsuspecting animals and the caption is "...will be better". As in ' WILL be better'. Gulp.

I am just catching up with two (!)weeks of MW&M, which has had me laughing in a truly therapeutic fashion. As I paged through, I thought for a moment that Mary was on horseback in Arizona at the Blah Blah Spa, but, alas, she was walking Pierre and Libby and indulging in more clueless self-talk about how much she enjoys pet-sitting for her cheapskate neighbors who don't put their pets in a boarding kennel. My mom always said, "Whatever you do on New Year's Day, you do all year." Here's to another sanity-saving year of Mary Worth and Me! Patience so none of us become patients, since we need one another.

"Yuri Vasilievich," Captain Second Rank Ivanov tell me, "we have big contact on sonar screen. Is here."

I look. "Is Amerikanski aircraft carrier, Comrade Captain?"

"No, is no engine sound. Is drifting. We go up to periscope depth and see."

So submarine ballast tank blown and we rise until periscope break surface. Image form on video screen.

"Is cruise ship, Comrade Captain," I report him. "Why is drifting? No sign damage."

"Yuri Vasilievich," Captain Ivanov reply, "we surface, put boat out, and you go with two of petty officer and see."

Is not what I want but is order so I launch emergency boat with petty officer Grechko and Akhmedov. Sea is calm so we soon at side of very big cruise ship and is expectation to see heads looking over rail at submarine and boat but is no one.

"We go aboard," I tell petty officerov, who look no happier than I feeling. We throw grapnel over side and I go up with Grechko while Akhmedov controls boat. On deck is evidence of no people but lot of evidence of fast departure, all lifeboat gone, champagne bottles and high heel shoes thrown around.

"Is great panic here," Grechko says. "You think monster or alien attacks ship like bad film?"

I about to answer when is suddenly comes horrible noise from somewhere in ship. Like cats quarrelling in middle of laughing hyena clan with tornado in background. "Zhopa," I curse, "is what?"

Grechko flinch back. "Is singing, I think, Comrade Lieutenant."

"Ti durak," I tell him. "You is idiot. Cannot be singing. No human can sing like that. Not even two of human. Just standing here is make my brain ache."

"Maybe is Amerikanski secret weapon then, " Grechko say, "they test in cruise ship for secrecy, and is weapon effect get out of hand."

"That why crew and passenger escape," I agree. "Is better we leave too, before noise scramble our mind."

So we go back to boat and to submarine and report to Captain Ivanov. "Is better we pretend this never happen, Captain," I say. "Such evil weapon is not belong on earth."

Captain Ivanov agrees. Before we go down conning tower hatch to submerge I look back at ship. How, I wonder, can such beautiful ship contain such horrible noise? It almost a dream.

Then gust of wind bring shrieking screeching tone over water, and I leap down hatch so ship lost to view.

"It all goes by too fast" is the single most ironic thing I think I've ever read in a Mary Worth panel.
I'm off now to try to get my cat to sit still on the sideboard, while winking and smiling at me.
