There's nothing as inspiring as a perfectly normal and appropriate teacher/student relationship.

"Why, are you trying to seduce me, Mrs Cameron? Because frankly I can do better."

When I was younger, it felt at times like I was INVISIBLE. For example, we had this exact same conversation when I was two days younger than I am now, and had it yet again when I was one day younger. I'm not even sure how old I am anymore, which is why I stared vacantly when Wilbur asked.

I guess age is a state of mind. Tell that to Mother Nature!

"You have skills that should not be ignored!" Ah yes, the KM Awkward Language Generator is up and running.

Cal, you're fumbling it! You were supposed to say something like, "Oh, Ms. Cameron, you are so young and pretty, I can't believe you're my teacher!"

No, Cal, just say she reminds you of your MOM!

"Give me an 'A' for this course without making me come to any more classes and you can get personally acquainted with my skills."
Thinks: "My sister tried this at the university, but this is only community college so the standards should be lower."

Your “attention” means a lot to me? Shouldn’t it be Toby’s “opinion”? I’m with RogerBW and meg. I cannot wait until Cal tells Toby that his mother recognized Toby’s name from when they were in the same grade at school.

"Your attention is important to me" may indicate deeper psychological issues. Perhaps Cal was infatuated by an older female relative who ignored his adolescent advances, mistaking them for nothing more than awkward compliments.
If so, Toby's attention would be important to him.
What do you think, Ian Cameron, PhD?
