Mary Worth 3930

Maybe I don't know how things work in hospitals. I always assumed that if a trained physicians assistant was assigned to provide treatment, that they would know the name of the patient they were treating. And they'd never forget a name like Bender because Mr. Bender went on a bender before beating up his wife, which was supposed to be funny, I guess?

It’s actually common practice to ask a patient their name and date of birth while that information is up on the charting screen. My experience is that of a Cleveland Clinic patient, a facility which may have somewhat higher standards than Mountview Hospital (or whatever it’s called) in Santa Royale.

“And you are…Ms. Bender?”

“No, I’m Dolores Kobelski.”

“Hmm, I’m guessing your birthdate is probably not August 13, 1941.”

“?!!”

Jess: "It's actually Mrs. Bender, Jared. As a young woman, I'd always thought that once I married, I'd opt for a hyphenated last name. But considering that my maiden name is Fender, well, you understand."

Meanwhile, it's all giggly fun at the disco until we discover tomorrow that Dawn and Cathy are dancing with Armie Bender. (Cue ominous, discordant violin.)

Question - why is the patient still wearing street clothes? A hospital gown is typically mandatory upon admittance.

No answer needed, it's MW.

Helen Clark, a big guffaw from me! Somehow I think this plot is violating all sorts of HIPPA laws, although I'm not sure about the privacy requirements for a comic strip character. Good eye, M. Wanders on Jared's half-baked typing.

LouiseF - Thanks! Sometimes you just gotta go with corny.

Yes, every time I have gone for a procedure, I am asked my name and DOB maybe 5 times . I say after a certain point: "I have given you my name and DOB, this is my story and I'm sticking to it!"
