"I left a lot of messages. A LOT of messages. Not just one or two. A whole LOT. I get the feeling that you are hiding something from me. You aren't a vigilante are you? Because if you are, I really don't think this is going to work, Mike."

I was temporarily heartened to see that Jenna had developed a backbone (rather than longingly fingering the dress she wore on her date, and drunk-dialing Dr. Mike's cell phone). But you know what's coming, right? Mary Worth to the rescue, as Jenna confides her concerns....
There is a stage I have noticed in writing a series. The author gets tired of the main character and moves them to the sideline or even kills them off, e.g. Sherlock Holmes or Nero Wolf. I wonder if this is what's been going on.
Since Mary got back from Vietnam her involvement has become more of an observer.
I count at least two types of box wine in her shopping bag.
''Funny you should mention about your father. My father isn't doing too well, either. When I last visited him in the nursing home, he kept babbling about some drive-by shooting from 30 years ago, and how he's felt a strange, buzzy feeling of guilt, ever since...''
Oh great. So now Mike is waiting on a call from Jenna. Will he need to drink heavily if she doesn't get right back to him? Is Jenna's turmoil about whether to call Mike back going to trigger a breakdown (in addition to the binge drinking problem that seemed to flare up while she waited for Mike to call)?
If Jenna doesn't return Mike's call, will Mike go cry to Mary, prompting Mary to visit Jenna to see what her deal is (besides being a giant lush)? When Mary confronts Jenna about her thoughtless non-returning of phone calls, will Jenna spill her guts about tragic events in her past that made her not want to return phone calls (and possibly played a role in her alcoholism, but let's stay focused on the key points here)? Will Mary advise Jenna to confront the skeletons in her closet (then maybe go somewhere to dry out)? If Jenna follows Mary's advise and gets herself together, will she finally return Mike's call? Will Mike be drunk or looking for Richie's killer when the call comes. Can we ever escape the gravitational pull of the dark heart at the center of this storyline?
This is all Bonnie?Bonnie Johnson?'s fault.
LOL--must be getting close to lunchtime. I looked at Jenna's hand in the first panel and suddenly got hungry for cheese-it crackers!
Toots' scenario is very likely. We are in for a long haul here, as Mary scurries furiously back and forth trying to sort out this mess!
Meanwhile, Jenna has worn her white hair scrunchy every single day since their firecracker date! Oh, how I long for a shopping trip with Bonnie?! SHE would have the good sense to buy one in every color and style.
I hope Jenna and Dr. Mike rekindle their romance and have a baby.
A vigilante baby who grows up, FINDS RICHIE'S KILLER AND SHOOTS HIM DEAD FOR CRIPES SAKES JUST GET THIS OVER WITH I WANT A POOL PARTY
"I'm sorry Mike, but I've met someone."
"But if we were to meet, what bar would we go to?"
Jenna is a little cranky today...
Did she lose her only client?
Was her credit cut off at the liquor store?
I am actually glad to see her!
Ahhhh, exactly how many dates have these two bird brains had? !!!!!!!!ONE!!!!!!!
(with apologies to birds everywhere)
I'm with Jared.
A bouquet of flowers? Dr. Mike would have scored more points by sending a bouquet of mini liquor bottles.
"...and the dandelions, commonplace and homely, represent the truth...
I did blow you off... Give me another chance. -Mike"
