Mary Worth 1,045

Yup. That pretty much sums it up for me, Mary.

We've spent an awful lot of time going exactly nowhere. It's time to ramp up the crazy. C'mon, Karen, stop toying with us -- we want boiled rabbits, we want an intervention, we want Liza's car driving off a cliff... and most of all, we want a flimsy pretext for Joe Giella to draw a few Batman-style panels in which baddies get shot, "KAPOW!!!" fills the panels, and left and right get confused. As they usually do.

Friday night??? I hope that isn't in real time. I don't think my heart can take the excitement of another week of:

"I don't know what to do about LiZa."

"I'm sorry things didn't work out." and

"Where are my Men's Fitness magazines?"

I think Liza is onto something...I think eventually, he will cave in and just marry her.

Hey, it just dawned on me...if the gender roles were reversed, wouldn't it be so much creepier and wouldn't someone suggest the stalked Liza seek help from a woman's group or something? I think this whole storyline is just leading us into a discussion about gender roles...cuz that's how Moy rolls.

I just want to slap them all.

Even Mary is bored with this story line, which explains her recent extended absence.

She gives Drew a halfhearted "Sorry" while continuing Chapter 1397 of James Patterson's latest summer blockbuster "The Cow Jumped over the Moon".

If she really wants to help, she should put on a flapper costume and head to the Friday din-din as Drew's date, that would smack of awesome Archie Andrews and Betty & Veronica hi-jinks

I just want to go find two sharp sticks and poke my eyes out with them.

Karen Moy is sick of this gig and doesn't give a rat's rump. BTW, my local paper dropped the strip after it came in last in a poll of readers. Why do we all continue to watch this paint dry?

@ Steve_J_23 I don't want LiZa's car driving off a cliff...I want it driving through Dr. Drew's front door, with LiZa wearing a wedding dress and carrying a shotgun. That would be entertaining.

Flea, I think the "watching paint dry" aspect is what keeps many of us riveted, in a perverse way. The late great Spy magazine had a special nickname for Abe Rosenthal, who had been executive editor of the New York Times, and who was given an op-ed column called On My Mind when he stepped down. The column was truly dreadful. Spy was merciless about it, and gave him the nickname "I'm Writing As Bad As I Can." That kind of sums up my fascination with this comic strip. With the added bonus of "I'm Drawing As Bad As I Can, Too."

Sunday 6/19. "Drew, let me see what I can do." FINALLY the words we've been waiting to hear!

Elaine said...

@kathyo - you literally took the words right out of my mouth! Today's final panel is like an oasis in the desert of boredom!

James in North Dakota said...

Kathyo and Elaine: Dr. Drew had me at "Maybe I should go back to Vietnam." To that, I started laughing.
Mary's "Let me see what I can do" had me jumping up and down!

Let the good times roll....this next week should be interesting.

Sorry, James@12.21p - but "next week" has NEVER been interesting.

The funny thing is that "Mary Worth" must have some real fans who think the writing and art work is fabulous. Where are they?

This storyline is not so much boring as it is increasingly creepy. I think Moy had a brief brilliant moment when she created a female stalker character. @Teacher Patti 11:07, I think you're onto something.

The sad truth is that those of us who want boiled rabbit will probably have to settle for a boiled ham sandwich with Wilbur.

Drew comes to see Mary, in someone's office. Does Mary have an office? She and Drew chat for a while. Now on Sunday, they presumably in the same room, are shown to be in a house. Whose house? Doesn't Dr. Jeff live at Charterstone? Isn't Dr. Drew staying with Dr. Jeff? Have Drew and Mary arranged a secret rendevous to escape Liza's prying eyes? Enquiring minds want to know!!
