Mary Worth 1,052

Mary Worth, you diabolical dame! One cup of coffee is all it took for you to convince Liza to quit her job, thus saving Mountview Hospital the trouble of firing her and Dr. Drew Cory the trouble of moving back to Vietnam.

Speaking of other possibilities, there's a very handsome doctor in the booth behind you.

I've been practicing the hand gesture Liza is making in panel three, and it's kinda painful if you do the wrist-hand-finger angles just like that. And it looks like Mary is slowly sucking something out of Liza's head --- look how deflated it gets by the last panel!

Too bad Mary doesn't have a computer, or she'd be able to tell Liza about the "mom who makes $77 an hour on the Internet working from home." Then again, there's always "Dirty Jobs" with Mike Rowe on TV. Lots of possibilities there.

Liza may have to make the decision about her future sooner than she thinks, if this break she is taking is not her lunch period, because I am sure they have been there longer than 15 minutes.

I believe Mary is going suggest the joys of identity theft to Liza.

They'll be gathering disgarded Visa & Mastercard slips from the patrons in just a minute.

Liza has prepared by removing her name from her badge...

Either that or Mary has stolen her soul.

Lots of drive? Obsessing on a guy who's not interested doesn't qualify as lots of drive. She's demonstrated NO drive at work, and no interest in her patients.

On a family-friendly blog, I can't imagine a profession she would excel at.

A really disappointing way to wrap up the Tale of LiZa. It's not that she loved Drew so much, it's that she hated her job so much. BORING!

Lots of drive, hmmm? How about a job as one of those folks who sit in a toll booth all day? She'll at least see lots of drivers.

"Lets consider other possibilities for you"
"I'm looking for an apprentice."
"Don't worry about the smell of brimstone
on the contract."

On second thought, Mary will probably suggest that Liza channel her ambitions into a commission sales career, since repeated rejection doesn't seem to faze her.

LiZa is beautiful? Who knew!? Well alrighty then... that's a GOOD thing in Santa Royale b/c if you're old and not-so-beautiful there are zero possibilities. Zip, zero, nada.

On another note-- I see what looks like a waiter in this diner. I wonder which McSnooty family member got assigned to work this greasy spoon?

Does this mean that LiZa won't be going to this party "next Friday." Speaking of which, it's Sunday....did the party happen? Boo. Of course, this is the Worthiverse and "next Friday" is probably going to happen in July. Of 2014.

Liza could be a wedding planner. She could have all the enjoyment of all those little details that usually go awry, but not have to supply the groom.

How is quitting your job during an economic crisis good advice? Maybe Mary has an inside person at the Santa Royale McDonalds and she knows they will be hiring soon.

(Today's strip)

"Liza, I know Drew cares for you . . . oh, who am I kidding? He runs when he sees you coming!"

I'm just curious, wanders, but are you referring to the gentleman with the comb-over when you talk about the "doctor in the next booth?" Would that be an advice columnist? That actually seems to be someon/something that Liza needs more than another doctor. Unless the doctor is a psychotherapist.
