While Althea Gibson overcame the color barrier to become the first African American woman to compete on the World Tennis Tour and to win a Grand Slam in 1956, Gina accomplished what? She married a jock? I'm serious, what has she accomplished? She was able to give up her education to hide from paparazzi?
However it's possible that the Gibson quote is referring to Mary Worth's meddling in Gina's life.
Judging by the way Bobby is checking out that groupie charging toward him, it appears Gina will be going to Coach Hamfist for advice pretty soon.

Miss the paparazzi? Did Booby (yes, I'm spelling it that way) give up that world class soccer? Does she think getting married stops that stuff? And like Wanders, I wonder just what this ponytail has accomplished. It certainly wasn't a legacy in waitressing.
Does this strip set any kind of MW record for Most Cliches Ever?
(btw--my word ver is frim lacyHo. And I thought this was a FAMILY FRIENDLY BLOG!)
I'm so excited! See the "To Gina and Bobby!" well-wishers in the last panel: Gina and Bobby invited Captain Kangaroo!
Meh - Karen Moy's been dreaming if she thinks the paparazzi would be interested in those two cardboard figures.
Since when does the elderly, short-term friend of the bride get to give "The Toast" at a wedding? And what's in the champagne flutes. Plain water is my guess. Are we going to have a cake-cutting ceremony so that these poor folks will get something to eat? I know that one of the few food items Giella can draw is a decorated cake. (See Lizzzza's surprise party for Dr. Drew.)
ok, why is the parking lot completely EMPTY while everyone is still inside? Were the guests all blindfolded and brought here by bus? And why are there lines coming from Gina's mouth!? Is that supposed to be a kiss, or does she have really bad breath?
Excuse me now, the papparazi is at my door...
I'm waiting for the day, exactly nine months from now, when Mary will answer her phone, and a proud Bobby will tell her that Gina has just given birth to a beautiful baby girl, who will be named Mary, in her honor. Then, Mary will smile smugly, while Bobby thanks her yet again, and goes on & on about how they would have never reunited, if not for her meddling.
Ups and downs? Triumphs and tragedies? For real?
I want to see the story, ten years from now, when Gina with no education or work experience has three kids and Bobby takes off with a groupie. Gina will have to go crawling back to Diner, and get stuck with the overnight shift. She will leave her kids alone b/c she can't afford child care and Coach Hamfist has been ignoring her child support garnishment orders (it would be a great panel of a 10 years older Coach Hamfist, muttering about how the bimbos always want money from his "guys"). Some neighbor in their low income high rise apartment will hear a kid crying and call the police. The police will take the kids away and put them in the child care system. Gina will return home to an empty apartment, empty save for a rat chewing on the corner of a ragged stuffed soccer player doll. Devastated, Gina will grab the soccer player doll and collapse to the group, sobbing. Bonus points if the final scene is the rat, about to chomp on Gina's pony tail.
Moral of my story: ladies, get an education and have work experience, cuz you never know....
Would a lady of Mary's generation really use a phrase like "what a ride"?
Glad to see fellow comic stars like Archie, Betty, and Veronica could attend...but what is the late Justice Thurgood Marshall doing there?
Looks like Karen Moy once again dragged out her "Big Book O' Quotations" (totally unsuitable for any occasion).
Just how do circumstances conspire? I love how everyone simultaneously shouts "To Gina and Bobby!" in hopes of stopping Mary from rambling on.
Now it's time to crank up the music for some wedding dancing.
Just in case you are interested, Mary dances exactly like Elaine Benes.

Ooh, Meg that's a great idea! I'd love to see Mary attempt to do The Electric Slide.
Maude- Mary thinks the Electric Slide is when she rides her Rascal scooter.
Monday
Offered for your consideration...one Mary Worth, an elderly, but not unattractive widow who believes that she can influence the world for good by the application of homey aphorisms and salmon squares. She is in her rose garden, reminiscing about a wedding she engineered, a wedding that took place not in Lloyd's Neck, New York, but only in...The Twilight Zone.
(exit Mr. Serling. cue theme music.)
Notice that the roses are the same color pink as all the drapes in the Worthiverse.
Fauxprof @ 8:59 AM, that's a terrific scenario. Now, how about Rod Serling exiting, and Roger Sterling entering....
Whiplash - Mary's home already! Not even a trip back to the airport with McHacky. And no sightings of Hamfist. I'm still scratching my head over the reason for this plot line. We already knew that Bobby and Gina had headed out East in bliss - and we saw him propose. What else did we need? What about Jill Black? Liza with a Z? Bonnie? Wilbur and Dawn? I'll even take an Ian and Toby story by now. But that trip to NY was pointless, unless Mary wasn't quite feeling smug enough these days.
[MONDAY] Just when I thought the wedding storyline had sputtered and stalled at the wedding reception... WHOOSH... Mary has returned home and is back to her "normal routine". Which will include telling Toby and Jeff (separately) about her trip. And surreptitiously cutting blossoms from her apartment building's rose bushes.
Look out Posh and Becks. You have competition.
Whoa, I need a sandwich!
When someone says "I'm not complaining" they are most certainly complaining.
I'm not complaining but this strip sucks.
