Having spent some time on the street, I learned how important it is to shop. And to be recognized publicly for being a good person. Trophies with your name on them are especially important, and a good reason to go shopping at upscale retail stores like Lord & Taylor. Also, it is extremely important to have your chin napkin artfully placed on your chin when you go shopping. Aw, the lessons of the street. Some things you just can't learn any other way.

I can hear the banjo music for Dueling Chin Napkins!
Ah, yes, finding your calling in life is just like finding a really great handbag. Words to live by, thanks to DOSC!
And now, fellow citizens of Santa Royale, a moment of silence, please. Today marks the final appearance of Mary Worth in the Akron Beacon Journal. Oh, well, at least we'll always have IPad.
As Akron goes, so goes the nation...
Mary, "Shelly, you can avoid cramming that entire napkin into your mouth if you'll slip your butter knife under it, and just poke it at your lips, like I'm doing."
Napkin Dispenser: "My work here is done! Time to parasail off to another table!"
OK! Sharing time is over! If there is one thing that Mary learned at Pax, it's that too much sharing leads to trouble.
So! Once DOSC realigns her upper plate artfully behind her napkin, they'll be off. Will there be a Troubled Youth slumped outside the Lord and Taylor, waiting for Mary to urge DOSC to help? Tune in next week...or the next...or the next...
In the first panel, Napkin Dispenser appears to have morphed into a mini vintage TV, complete with antenna.
"Oh no...I'm all set! I brought clothes for the occasion. They are old and painfully out of style, but dear Jack didn't leave me the moola that Artie left you, Shelly. But that's fine, just fine, and I am not the least bit resentful, my dear!"
@fauxprof, will there be signs posted stating that Akron is a Mary Worth-Free Zone?
So nice to see the appearance by Chin Napkin's Father, Napkin Dispenser.
MWAM Translation: "Maybe we'll find something for you" = "That outfit as dreadful; we need to do soemething about it --stat."
MWAM Translation: "I brought clothes for the occassion" = "Don't you see that I'm already wearing a pant suit?!"
In hindsight, maybe Napkin Dispenser is Chin Napkin's mother....
fauxprof, The Akron Beacon Journal should be ashamed!
Why is there an empty chair at their table? Were they expecting the good doctor to join them - or did Moy and Giella confuse Shelly's traditions?
Mary has already dressed for the fancy dinner. She's moved her pink scarf from the center of her neck to a jaunty side angle. Very cosmopolitan!
Assuming that logic exists in the Mind of Moy, Shelly's suggestion that Mary might find something just right could be considered as foreshadowing.
My fervent hope is that when the two ladies are dressed for the
'ceremony', each of them will emerge from her boudoir wearing exactly the same gown.
Imposters.
They should give Hillbilly Ann a call and see if she wants to meet them in the Polyester Pantsuit Dept. of Lord & Taylor!
