I have bolt cutters in my purse and I'm not afraid to use them.

A few snips and I can finally end this storyline right here.

Empire State Building at last, along with a hint that it's almost over. And what was accomplished? Well, Olive was kept out of school for over three months, her relationship with her parents was not improved one bit, and she was turned into even more of a pedantic little pseudo-adult than she was before. Job well done, Mary. (Oh, and Job the Hobo is still clinging to his faith in the alleyway, if he hasn't frozen to death.)

"I'm sad to be leaving soon. However, I just heard that there's a vacancy on the Supreme Court, so I'm offering my services. It's a position that's made to order for someone of my superior intellect and wisdom. Ta ta, Olive!"

They should have talked about freedom at the Statue of Liberty. Then they could have talked about ice being cold and heartless and how that's the only way to avoid pain. We could have gotten an entire extra week out of this story.

mighty joe young would throw these two off the empire state building rather than rescue them...

I wish KM would counter her freedom to write nonsensical garbage by exercising personal responsibility not to.

Fauxprof, another accomplishment is that Mary & Olive have worn the same clothes for three months straight. Phew!

Does anyone know what Olive wrote in her letter to Mary that precipitated this urgent and extended visit? Has anything been improved, aside from having a different perspective? And exactly how has her perspective now changed? Maybe she now knows that school isn't important?

They've managed to make a trip to NYC as boring as watching water boil.

Wait ... what? Mary's leaving??!! I just read the whole comic, and I can't believe it! Mary, you JUST GOT HERE!

Mary sez, "I'm sad to be leaving soon ... but I'll be back again, Olive!" Huh! Tell that to Dear Old Shelly Cohen! Or to Ken Kensington! Or to Gina the Waitress and Bobby the Hockey Player! Or to Shovey McShovington the mugger in Central Park!

Oh, wait ... NOW I get it! Mary'll be back. She just won't bother to make any contact with you on her next visit. You won't even know she's in New York. Unless, like John Dill, you have some kind of tasty wares that she can sponge off of you. (No, Olive, that was not a double entendre!)

Start spreadin' the news,
I'm leaving this year.
No longer be a part of it,
in cold New York.
These Charterstone blues,
are melting away.
John Dill can be a part of it,
New York, New York.
If I can pontificate there,
then I can pontificate anywhere,
So long to you, New York, New York.
